Going to b in galway on thursday nite,

I've never really been in the town before, so i'm just wondering from people who've been there, or live there

What's the nitelife like on a thursday?
    Anywhere in particular to avoid?
Anywhere that should be particularly good?
    Are there any good restaurants?
Any comedy or decent music spots?

Thursday is the best student night out in Galway. Especially Cuba (dance downstairs, great rock upstairs). GPO is also good.
Avoid CP's, ChurchLane, Halo and Karma like the plague unless you like pop music and a strict dresscode. Just avoid Churchlane completely actually.
Cuba and GPO are in my opion the best clubs in Galway.
Restaurant: As a student I don't get to eat in restaurant all that much but I recomment McDonaghs - best Fish and Chips in the country. We've got a pretty good Supermacs too :D
I think Cuba do comedy nights on Sundays but that's not much use to you.
Cellar bar have an open Mic night which is pretty good - can't remember the day tho', could be Thursday.
    Hope that helps,

    Bacchus

Roisin Dubh is a good bar, live music, good craic, and a little out of the way of the usual Shop Street tourist-nonsense (it's a five minute walk from Shop Street, across the bridge where Jurys Inn is).
Also there's a place called the Sitting Room (or is it the Living Room?) 200 metres from Shop Street which is worth a visit for some young girlies.

Yeah, my brother works in the Roisin along with friends of mine....Best live gig pub in Galway! Last band i saw were sugercuts .... great band. Anyhows, cuba can be a bit of meat market on weekends but it'll be students on thurs night. Cuba is way better than the gpo!!! Although the gpo sometimes has really good gigs! The celler is accross the road from the gpo its good for music and it doesnt get too packed cause the bouncers stop people purely for overcrowding which is good (elbow room for a pint) Plus they serve till 2.00 on the weekends. (thurs on) emm dinner ! Menlo park Hotel on the headford road is good for the carvery lunch/dinner its not too pricey for good food. Anywhere down towards the spanish arch down by Jurys if your into fishy things. I used to go to kings head alot, good craic on a sat for the match's.

the radisson is good if you want to go on the pull, it a bit like a big hall, huge dance floor and it is very student-e.
i agree stay away from karma and church lane.
you should check out if there are are any bands playing in the blackbox, they sometimes have good music on a thurs.
if you like comfort and stylish surroundings you should go to "the living room" (bar) but you should go at 8 or 9 if you want to get a seat." the skeiff" is also nice ,older, more refined crowd, if that what your after
"the hole in the wall" and "fibber magees" are good craic they do drinks pormotions there aswell, most of the student population go there.
"the kings head" is also a very popular spot that suits of types, it also has a band playing most thurs nights

on a thurs if your going to a nightclub dedpending on where you going you want to go to the nightclub early enough because the q's can be unreal

gaverys restaurnt/pub ( across from the train station is a good spot for food)
after the nightclub javas is open(across from cp's), it a little coffie shop that does really nice food and has really cool people.

if you looking for a chippe...marios on shopstreet does the niceest fast food ever.their chips are home cut( def try a pizza- best ever mmmmmmmmm im getting hungry!)

    All sounds very good!

I'm surprised at the range, hadn't a clue there would be so many options...

So what I've weighted all the advice so far... with the help of www.livingingalway.ie

    Comfort, relaxed, bit more mature:
The living room, 200 metres from Shop Street - Thurs chilled house grooves
    The skeiff

    Student Drinking:
Cuba (3 floors) - Thurs Pyramid etc. 11pm
Radisson - Thurs Featuring Mark Molloy & Guests
Hole in the wall - Cheap
    Fibber Magees

    Music:
Roisin Dubh, five minute walk from Shop Street, across the bridge where Jurys Inn is
    Blue Note, around corner above
The Celler - Wed open mic 9pm
Crane, Sea Road - traditional sessions
    Blackbox

    Food:
    Milano's, Italian, Middle St. Galway
    Scoosi’s, Italian, Spanish Arch.
Kashmir Indian Restaurant, Barton House, 11 Francis Street
    Gaverys Restaurnt/Pub
    Marios, Shopstreet - fast food
    The Rivergod, Quay St

    Avoid:
    ChurchLane
    Boo Radley's
    The Red Square Pub
    CP's
    Halo
    Karma

Even if it's not for the music, definetly get to the Roisín Dubh for a few pints.

Or the Crane on Sea Road for great traditional sessions! (Gppd pint as well)

The blue Note, which is just around the corner from Rosin Dubh is great for good tunes and a great crowd, normally a big fire is down and the staff are sound, nice for wheat beer too, you will probably get free passes to the GPO if you are there for an hour or two.

The living room is huge and normally will be packed and has fairly decent music
and the ladies are fairly sweet too.
Bar Cuba is really nice too, actually The whole of Cuba is a safe bet, 3 floors (Bar Cuba, Club Cuba, Live Cuba)

There is a little free Booklet that comes out every 2 weeks called "The List" this can be found in most pubs, and eateries so keep an eye out for it.
