Car Pools and Lifts

    Hi Guys,

As this is a commuting thread I thought this maybe of some interest.

A large majority of us commute by car from the counties such as Louth/Meath/Down/Monaghan, Kildare and Wicklow.

I myself commute to work via car most of the time and the occasional time by train from Dundalk to Dublin each day.

It takes me via car about 1hr 10 mins to get into work in the city centre and what I do is use the motorway (M1) and then park at the Dart Car Park in Killester and get the dart which is better than driving directly into town.

As we all know the cost of fuel and “Toll Booths” are making driving more and more expensive.

So in order to reduce costs and we should have this thread committed to lifts and car pools etc…

It might make things easier for us all and leave a few extra quid in each others back pockets as to be honest the public transport is not the best on the east coast no matter what people say. The Dundalk to Dublin line had over 152 times recorded as being late from 5 mins to total cancellation at peak times of trains. So unless this dramatically improves both price of fares and reliability people will still hit the road.

    Comments please

    Thanks

    Rob

PS. Victor could you make this a sticky thanks :-)
    :):)

Heya, dunno if there's much chance but I'm looking for a lift from Thurless/Athlone to Sligo on Friday, trying to make a connection after work is turning out to be impossible.

I'll pay petrol money of course, and you get the joy of feeling you've donne a good deed!

    Hi,
See site below for car share options. There was a big fuss about the launch of this site a few years ago but I don't think it ever took off much.

    http://www.dublintraffic.ie/BulletinBoards.shtml

If car sharing was made mandatory (e.g. min of 3 adults on N11 ??) if would make a huge difference to the volumes of traffic. Presumably your journey would halve in duration.

Of course the above suggestion is not practical for many reasons - but then again, if it was introduced for 6 months , I bet that the majority would then vote to keep it! (Halve your expense! halve you commuting time!)

    Just a thought !

Maybe someone should set up an Irish-style Mitfaherer Centrale in which people could pay towards the petrol costs in exchange for a lift from point to point.

Hi - I'm new to boards.ie - anyway I'm interested in carpooling from carrickmacross -> dublin and cannot find anyone interested in sharing. I know the N2/M1 is packed with Monaghan/Louth drivers so if anyone knows a good place to advertise on boards.ie let me know...
    thanks

Hey guys. My husband is looking for someone with whom to car pool from Naas to South Dublin. He has a car and would be willing to give a lift, to share cost, but preferably would like to share the driving with someone.
