to be perfectly honest. they are too different to compare i like rallying because of its excitement, and its spectator friendly appeal. In f1 nearly everything is precalculated rallying is a much fairer sport imo because it is more the drivers skill not his equipment that decides his performance. but if it came down to choosing between the two. id pick F1

I love F1 and have been interested for a few years now. Rallying is appealing too but just never got into it- apart from playing WRC on the Playstation.

    Rallying without doubth is better.

I was a memeber of rally team for many years and the buzz of rallying is certainly much better.

Erm, you can't compare racing against the clock and racing against other cars. F1 and rallying is where the main money is tho so you rarely see other racing series on terrestrial TV. F3000, GT, Pro Car, DTM, BTCC are all better to watch than F1 but money talks.

I think Rallying is the best test of motor sport skills in any sport. They race on everything, Ice, Gravel, tarmac. If you put Schumacher in a Rally car he would be okay, but nothing near people like Loeb or Solberg.

A few years ago, Colin Macrae tested a Jordan and he was only a few seconds off Martin Brundles times!!

I've been to some Rallying events and it is seriously insane. I was at a forest in Yorkshire and Johnny Milner came down at fult pelt, it was awesome.

For me, rally is king. Formula 1 is a shadow of its former self. The 1970s was when it was at its best, they could overtake then.

Thats because hes a racing driver in a rally car, the others are rally drivers in rally cars.

So if they were at a rally he'd be slower ... did he try racing Bundle and 18 others?

You think? how many overtaking oppertunities where there at tracks like mosport and zandvoort, to name but 2, not forgetting about the ring, 174 turns and 1 safe overtaking point in each lap. It was better in a faster and more dangerous way. There wasn't much move overtaking back then than there is now.

i love both, and will not choose one or the other. it's this kind of polarisation that's causing the FIA to make the wrc and f1 seasons work around each other... mainly for tv viewing though. and now ITV show both wrc and f1, so it should be interesting to see what happens there.

i recall a year or 2 ago david coulthard saying he respects rally drivers more then f1 drivers... dangerous comment to make.

Coultard probably respects any drivers that are better than him. That includes all the rally drivers, Parcel force and UPS drivers, and old Mr Smith who drives the milkfloat down our road. Why Ron Dennis still hires that guy is beyond me?

well he wont be in the team next season... it'll be raikonen and montoya all the way. if they get the car right they'll be a force to be reckoned with

Yeah thank god for that. Coulthard is good in about 1 race out of 4. He is either white hot or completely useless. When hes at his best, he can even take it to Schumacher. But that only happens two or three times a year.

Hes after a williams seat for next year. Dream on.

hmm cars going around in circles or cars doing far more interesting things,
    no contest
rallying wins out over F1 each and every time.

I went to Le Mans 24hrs a few summers ago, twas alright bit boring,
but the Rally of the Lakes in 2 weeks time I know will be far far better.
More exciting for those watching as well as taking part.

they're too different to compare. I'd probably pick F1 because its a lot more accessible. With Rally it can be very difficult to follow the progress - it takes all day for everyone to get through and at the end of it all you just have times - you can never see one driver relative to another. I know they started making computer-generated videos of two cars doing the same part of the course but that's not real so it doens't count. Plus, that can only be done after the rally is over.

I like them both but I must say F1 is definitely more my favourite. Although I agree that you cant compare the both. You know, you can like both types of motosport :P
