Imagine Tranmere in the UEFA cup! :D

Where are the matches to be played?

COOL Bring it on Arsenal. Whats the date for the matches and is it at Highbury or a neutral gound as the semis used to be. Sorry if I,m asking the obvious but its been 5 years since Utd were involvedat this stage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,116 ✭✭✭✭RasTa

It will be at Villa park again, lets hope for a repeat preformance :D Other semi final is at Old Trafford

the utd and arsenal one will be at villa park
and i suppose sunderland and millwall/rovers will be at OT

revenge for 99 will be wengers aim here. no doubt sky will be creaming themsleves over this

on a side note does anybody else think that arsenal is after having a very hard fa cup run, like all premiership teams so far, until the final that is

ouch! ill give yea that one ;)

They play in the league the week before and if they got drawn in CL quarters
would play on 23/24 March 2004 and 06/07 April.

Suspensions could mount up for both teams if they had 2 play 4 matches in 3 weeks. Its bad enough having 2 matches in a row.

Very disappointed with that draw, the final will be shambolic.

Guess what that means! There will be a Nationwide division team in the UEFA cup next season.

Not if the team in question gets promoted (assuming it wont be Tranmere).

Don't BBC get first call on which match they show? Meaning Sky will be left with Sunderland vs. Milwall / Tranmere... :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,912 ✭✭✭Washout

    Agree with kaids.

Was looking forward to potential arse utd final but oh well.

    come on milwall!

imagine if sunderland have to play milwall...mcarthy against his old team.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 13,018 ✭✭✭✭jank

yea an arsenal-utd final would have been great but alas its not to be but realisticly that game will be the final in terms of who picks up the trophey at the end of the day

In the short term it is a dissapointment but I can't wait to see one of the other teams in Europe. Also, their is always the Charity Shield if United win it.:)

Arsenal are going for a record breaking 4th final in a row and Alex Ferguson has never lost a domestic Semi Final.

    Somethings got to give :ninja:

    Come on you Gunners!

Doubtful. United are going to win. It is a Villa Park after all. When was the last time United lost there? And we'll have our defence back for that game.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 316 ✭✭Michelangelo

If they do not win, a lot of people will lose faith in Utd including myself.

Can anyone give me a date?

Should be a cracker of a Semi, lets hope the BBC show it, oh and sky can have the manu game ;)

Arsenal - Man Utd will be playing each other twice now in the same week, shades of chelsea and middlesborough here!

TBH i could see utd winning it but i can also see henry having a field day agianst a poor utd defense and beating them ala pompy style
Arsenal will be well up for it too

Not if Phil Neville has decapitated Henry in the league match. :D

What's the story with Ferdinand's appeal? What are the chances he'll be back then?

    And what do you want?

    Sympathy!!!!!

You gather 20 or so of the best players in the World, pay them telephone salaries and then complain when they have to play the might of Middlesborough, Leeds and Portsmouth......occasionally!!!!!

Can't feel your pain at all on this one.

    Go Millwall, Tranmere or Sunderland!!!!!!!

Here's hoping a team with REAL supporters wins it this year. That's what the cup is all about.

it was just an observation and if arsenal beat utd they they deserve to win the cup as they have knocked out better teams along the way
most people would aggree with that, its just kinda strange to see that
arsenal drew top flight teams all the way to the final i wonder what the odds are "will someone work them out?"

it also good to see nationwide teams doing well as that final will probably go down as one of the best days of their lives win or lose
they wont treat it as a "mickey mouse cup :)" and will give it their all

whats a telephone salary and would that be eircom or BT lol :p
can you imagine of the met in the CL quarter final's on the 24th March and 6th April.

that would be class. it would silence alot of people here depending on the outcome

Not sure which it is - but one of Millwall ot Tranmere can get to the final with out playing a Premier league team.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15,552 ✭✭✭✭GuanYin

too har dto call the Utd-Arsenal game.

My gut goes with Arsenal, just because Utds defence is so shaky at the moment but this is as good as a derby match so I wouldn't be confident either way.

I'd like to see Utd go through against Sunderland in the final, just for the entertainment of a McCarthy&McAteer (manager&capt) Vs. Fergie&Keane(ditto) press field day.

That said, its hard for a neutral to see past Arsenal for any domestic match at the moment.

Juicy semi for United and Arsenal.

Should be a cracker, especially with the league game beforehand.

The two games will define United's season.

Sure, Arsenal have the league wrapped up, but it would be sweet to thwart their double and treble aspirations.

Edit:( had to do some work!)

and if they end up with each other in the CL too, some tough matches coming up for both teams.

Correct me if im wrong, but doesnt this mean that a 1st division team will be playing in uefa next year (assuming none of the 3 get promoted)?

As to Arse/Moan - should be a great match - looks like the final will be the easiest match each has had in the cup.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,115 ✭✭✭Pacifico

The winner of the man/arse will win the FA cup IMO

Dunno bout the uefa thing though.........

Still should be liverpool in there.... :(

It is a Villa Park after all. When was the last time United lost there?

Playing Arsenal there might be a slightly different proposition than playing Villa  This is basically the final anyway so it should be good.

Fair enough. Thumbed nose redirected to more deserving targets.

The idea of Millwall playing Roma, Lazio, Real Something or other has a certain charm.

looks like the semi final will be moved to cardiff to accomodate the extra demand
good move that imo, it will be kinda like the cup final itself !

Bad move I think - it takes away from the final being something special (I didn't like when they used to play the semis in Wembley either). Arsenal fans didn't bother going to Cardiff for the charity shield at the start of the season - the semi-final shouldn't be moved now just to accommodate them now.

Also, we've got great memories of Villa park in '99 with Giggsy going on the RUN :D
