Upgrading from Dell 266

    I have a Dell Pentium II 266
    minitower case
    8 gig hd
    256 ram

Obviously not very useful these days but I have a bit of cash to do it up.
Don't want to spend money on unnecessary things.
Do not need to upgrade the monitor, sound card, keyboard or mouse.

I want to use the pc mainly for the ipod and a bit gaming online

Would i be better off buying a new case or is it easy to upgrade the dell?

I guess what i need is
    a new mother board,
new processor 2 gig + (AMD or Pentium?)
    at least 512 ram
    around 80 gig hd
    decent graphics card

Can anyone suggest a good cheap package that covers most of these bases.

The other thing i was thinking of going for is a barebones pack, possibly one of the shuttles. Advisable?

    Thanks in advance

    Bob

You cant upgrade your old system, not even worth the effort,
You need a total rebuild, like you said new case, pro, mem, hdd etc....

Whats your budget, also the shuttles are good but noisey, very compact and run hot.

There have been loads of threads with the same question, lookk back and you'll find all the answers

    Thanks joePC

As Joe said, you can forget about just adding in parts for that Dell due to them being un-upgradeable peices of ****e :)

Work out what you have to spend and the folks here will give good build advice :)

ps. except all the muppets who suggest AMD chips :D
