Hi i'm thinking of getting a shuttle SN41G2 with a xp2500+ and cosair or munskin 3200 memory
tired of all the fans in my current rig
I intend playing dvd/divx/mp3 I don't play many games so super graphics isn't important and maybe a little tivo type software

Any comments on the shuttle ? model ? is there a better option ?

    Thanks

Shuttles are quite noisy fanwise. Try to get the new G4 models with silentx psu's
The SN45 might be a better option - the Nforce2 Ultra board overclocks better and you can choose your own gfx card...

ICE Fan is very noisey..you can replace it with vantec stealth if thats your thing (tis mine ;) )

You could then get one of the cheaper ATI AIW cards to do the Recording. think theres a 9200 AIW knocking about. Or might be able to find a 9000AIW at a knockdown price.

yeah i like the shuttles and would like to built a second system around one if i had a load of spare money :). is there a better option yes there is but you probably don't need it. i looked up the one you selected and it has onboard gf 4 mx graphics which isn't great but you said you don't play games. also it has an nforce 2 chipset but doesn't support 200mhz athlon processors, so you might not be able to overclock the 2500+ but again this may not interest you.

the XPC SN45G does have 200mhz processor support but no onboards graphics so you would have to fork out for something extra her.

depends on how much you wanna spend really, there is all the p4 shuttles that would give better performance and i'm sure i saw a shuttle based on the 64bit amd processors which would be nice also.

but if its just to do what you mentioned the first one should be fine

The original nforce2 boards in the SN41G2 and others are a bit of a con really they say they support 200FSB but many of them arent stable at that speed. I have the SN41G2 and it runs my XP2500 at 195 FSB which is almost an XP3200 there. Although if you are worried about fan noise you probably wont want to overclock too much anyway. Maybe even underclock.

There are AMD64 based shuttles but they are kind of a dead end. All the AMD64 m/bs will be changing in the next 6 months or so as AMD change the number of pins on their CPU's. Having said that I think they are roadmapped to XP64 @ 3800, with the current board. And the AMD64 is meant to be a serious beast of a processor.

    thanks Lads
I currently have and epox 8rga+ (with a couple of h/w mods) which has a the same onboard video
    I run a 1800xp at 195 * 10 in it
The idea of the shuttle is looks great and hopefully no jet engine sound
Looking into the 9200 AIW looks good
    the g4 models €€€€€'s

if you are buying a seperate graphics card such as the 9200 AIW then i would recommend the XPC SN45G as it has the nforce 2 ultra chipset which supports the 200mhz fsb and its a little cheaper
