Who on Boards maintains a weblog?

Any preference for blogging services (and why?), e.g. Blogger, Typepad, Moveable Type?

Any third party services that you use in conjunction with your basic weblog, e.g. Haloscan for Comments & Trackbacks, Bloghop to allow ratings, Blogroll to maintain a blog webring?

I use B2 on a server I run myself. Of course this particular server has no contact with the outside world, thus keeping me the right side of the libel laws.

I just use LiveJournal - has all I need and a lot more.

I used to use EasyJournal, till I switched to Livejournal.

Yeah, it really depends on how technical you are. Personally, I'd install some software like b2 on a server and alter it to suit my needs, but if you're only interested in having a blog available to the world, something like livejournal is perfect. It is extremely popular and has a very strong "community" feel to it.

I've played about with a Blogger.com - automatically uploads all files etc to my website via ftp... I haven't tried any other but can anyone recommend a better one as I am soon to go traveling to Australia for a year and want to keep a blog for people back home... Any recommendations?

What's the point of keeping a blog? What do people get from it? I don't think I'd be able to write one, and I don't know if I'd like the idea of other people reading about me and my life. Serious question.

I use it to write various crap about things I think about but I don't usually go into tremendous detail about my life.

So to answer your question: I like writing

Actually, without giving you a big head, your's is probably one of the better ones (in my opinion) as it doesn't deal with your life and is more of an article-type affair.
I guess I just have no interest in what people get up to.

Many people write blogs on a partcular subject.. they might have a personl homepage and hae a blog as part of it. Some people write it like a diary, but obvioisuly not terribly personal. For me, I'm going away traveling to Australia for a year, and instead of writing the usual monthly e-mail to all your friends and family, I am putting it in a blog I can attach pictures etc. Essentially it creats a website for you without you having to do anything. They may be considered a bit nerdy now, but the number of 'bloggres' is going to get a Lot bigger over the next few years...

Without sounding too trolly, most blogs are used by annoying 15 year olds who moan about how depressed and bored they are. I used to read a few peoples blogs on boards but tbh these days they suck.

I use livejournal - its just a bit of fun, nothing too personal.

For the most part neither have I. The main function of my non-boards friends who are spread all over the pace, so I don't get to talk to each other as much as we would like. We use journals to keep up to date with whats happening in each others lives, and if someone else happens to read it - well, like it or lump it ;)
