    This Just in!!!

    ’I’D LIKE TO COME BACK’

    Gellar talks Buffy again.

March 5, 2004 -- BUFFY wants to be around to say good- bye to Angel.

Sarah Michelle Gellar who played the butt-kicking ghoul killer for years on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" says she’s open to appearing in a final episode of "Angel" if her schedule permits.

"If everything falls into place, and it feels like the right thing at the time for the right people," Gellar told SCI FI Wire, speaking openly about the issue for the first time.

"Angel" the spin-off of "Buffy" follows the adventures of a brooding, but good-natured vampire who fights to protect the world from various super-natural threats. It’s ending its five-season run this spring.

"I go back and forth on the idea, especially because ’Angel’ had such a hard time, in my opinion, always getting out from ’Buffy’s’ shadow . . . And I would hate for it to go out being about Buffy. It’ll all depend on if I’m home in time and what the ideas are."

Gellar had been approached to appear on an earlier episode of "Angel" but says that due to the death of her aunt and her hectic moviemaking schedule, she had to pass.

Reports that she wanted to distance herself from the Buffy character were untrue, she says.

"They had asked me to do ’Angel,’ and it was a very bad time in my personal life," Gellar says.

Yes, but have the people, who make Angel, actually asked her to appear in the final episode?

I really hope she doesn't. She had her own show, it's over. Angel has developed and become its own world. It would irritate me no end for the series finale to suddenly have to revolve around its parent show. At least Angel's appearance in the Buffy finale was minimal (and even then I wish it had never happened).

i hope she does return, it would leave a helluva alot unresolved if she didnt

    Nahhh, ioxy's right!

Buffy being around would take away the emphasis from being on Angel & Co. and probably lessen the impact of whatever happens to them, making for a really flat finale.

I don't think I'd like her to appear, if only because she couldn't appear when they wanted Buffy to be in it--fair enough for her reasons and all-- but I don't want Buffy crowbarred into the final episode just because she's available. If it's a case that they planned to ask her again to appear in the finale, fine, but hasty re-writes to include Buffy shouldn't happen imo.

Re: Angel appearing in the last 2 episodes of Buffy. It was a fairly pointless appearance for him to turn up & then just let Buffy fight the good fight all by herself, but at the same time, he didn't need to be in it any longer than he was, and it was nice to see them together one last time. At least it saved us from having another Buffy/Spike scene ;)

I think they should stick to the "prophecy" then when Angel becomes human, have him reunite with Buffy so they can fall in love which was what he was wanting to become human for.

Personally I'd rather Cordelia came back for the last episode of angel

they already brought spike in, i think thats enough

They could just have her in the final scene, in the same way the makers of ER had George Clooney in when Julianna Margulies left the show.

I still vote for not at all. Especially with the way things are probably going to pan out:
Spoilers up to - and including - the very latest US episode. And when I say spoilers, I mean spoilers...
I mean it's got enough on its plate with Cordelia dead and now Fred dead too! The final battle is lined up to take place with Possessed Fred Boy helping Team Angel fight a great battle - and I'm assuming the final battle is take down the Senior Partners who will, I'm sure, be headed by the not-as-dead-as-we-thought Lindsey. We don't need Buffy popping her head in to help out with something that's been Angel's battle.

Do you dare peek behind the grey there? Hehehe, you've been warned...

Well the 2 shows are interlinked in a loose way with some characters having a history of appearing in both.
The prophecy idea is a good one, its unfinished business.

News just in is that buffy wont be in the final ep according to the makers. Apparently they wanted her in the second last ep but Sarah Michelle Gellar is in Japan filmin so she couldnt make it. I personally wud have liked her in it just to finish wha they started in Buffy but hey not goin to happen now

I'm pretty happy she wont be in it. Angel's appearance at the end of Buffy was totally unnecessay and it really looked like they included him just for the sake of it. Besides is would cause too much confusion with Angel, Spike and her. She never really chose between them and it should stay that way.

Here's something grabbed from imdb's daily news to add to Ronika's post:
Sarah Michelle Gellar Out of 'Angel' Finale

Angel fans are disappointed to learn Sarah Michelle Gellar will not be reprising her Buffy role in the show's season finale, after bosses decided against it. Joss Whedon, the show's executive producer, tells TV Guide's online edition that he didn't invite Gellar to appear in the final episode of Angel - a Buffy, The Vampire Slayer spin-off, because he didn't want it to "revolve around a guest star". He explains, "I want to end the show with the people who've been in the trenches together, the characters who have lived - and occasionally died - together, the regulars." Whedon invited Gellar to appear in the second-to-last episode, but she wasn't available because she was in Tokyo, Japan, working on the horror film The Grudge when the show was being shot. Whedon's partner, Jeffrey Bell, says show executives eventually learned that Gellar was available for the final episode despite being booked at the time of the penultimate one. But by that time, the second-to-last episode had already been written and shot, and getting her into the last episode "didn't make any sense" with the plot that had been written so far. Bell adds, "By the time it became a possibility, the ship had sort of sailed."

I like Whedon's take on it. Penultimate episode would have been reasonable, although it might have looked tacked on. Last episode wouldn't have seemed right.

Penultimate I could have dealt with - the finale? No. Given that seems to be the general thought of everyone, it's hard to say that us Angel fans are disappointed. I'm glad Angel will be able to wind down its own stories and not have to feel it's pandering to its sibling show.

Despite not wanting to be distracted from the Angel storyline, I would have still liked to have seen Angel reunited with Buffy at the very end. "Prophecy completed, Angel becomes human, Angel finally gets to be with Buffy". That was the way it should have been before all the distractions.

Did anyone watch last nights Angel???? Thought it was great... Nice to see Cordy again... was beginning to forget how funny her character was.

TBH I hope they leave the Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Spike thing alone altogether and don't mention it anymore. After the last few seasons of Buffy I don't trust them not to make an utter mess of it :)

Maybe they could bring back a less controversial character like Oz. (Wishful thinking.)
