i think i may have a drink problem. every night i feel compelled to go and socialise in the pub. and its not just the social thing. sometimes ive had friends round and still wanted to go to the pub. ive drank at home and in the pub on my own.

during everyday i sit in work or at home or wherever and say to myself, ill get an early night or ill stay in and not drink. but i cant.

dont know if i can get help here, just needed to tell someone.

it says if you answer yes to any 3 of those questions You are an alcoholic.

    i know ppl that
    1. have ended up in hospital.

    2. sher i have had a blank of memory once or twice.

    3. Loads of ppl drink to gain confidence...

So if u answer yes to those problems ur an alcoholic

That website seems a little over the top. Technically I am an alcoholic according to it, and if everyone were to take it seriously, so would the majority of young people in Ireland. I've had memory loss due to alcohol, I've felt remorse after a night on the lash after doing something stupid. So according to that site i'm probably an alcoholic, yet I haven't answered yes to any of the other questions. Seems a bit OTT.

Might not be OTT, half the people in Ireland have drinks problems IMO. I mean in America when they say "you going out for a drink?" they mean literally a drink.

Do you feel a slight high when you have a drink? Do you feel irritable, sometimes having a headache or feeling like you've been hit by a truck when you go off the drink? Do you get withdrawl hangovers (solved by having a morning cure) as opposed to the dehydration hangovers that normal people get?

It does sound like you have problems with alcohol and perhaps you should talk to your doctor or join an AA club. If you're constantly thinking of drinking and more or less can't wait to get out of work to go drinking you have a problem. Try a couple of things like don't go to the pub, you may feel the urge to go, but don't. Just say to yourself, nope don't need to go, I can sit here and drink a cup of tea or coffee or something. If you find yourself in the pub 5 mins later, it's time to seek help.

    On a side note:
According to that site you're an alcoholic and so might I be. I answered yes to question 3 and the result is: If you have answered YES to any one of the questions, there is a definite warning that you may be alcoholic.
    I don't think so....
