Alarming as the subject may sound :) my friend wants his laptop back tomorrow, with windows 2000 on it.
I've been mucking about with linux on it, but I don't need to save anything, just wipe and go.

So, I boot with a windows boot floppy, fdisk the partitions away and format /mbr, right?

Anything else to be taken into account?

Your "FRIEND" is a candidate for a full frontal labotomy reversal ....

If you're just putting a fresh install of windows 2k

    forget linux is there

boot of the cd and install as you would anyway.

Will that definitely get rid of LILO?

Yup, you won't need to fdisk /mbr or anything.
