Just curious on what people think is:
    1) The best lucasarts Series of games
    and,
    2) Their best single game
    3) Favorite Character from Lucasarts games.

Personally think the best series is Monkey Island,
while best game being Monkey Island 2.
Favorite character would definitely have to be Murray The Demonic Skull.

I don't know if you are including Lucasarts published games but I am currently playing Secret Weapons over Normandy and I think it very very good. Not truly a war flight sim (thank god!) but very atmospheric and great dun to play...

I also vote for Monkey Island 1 (with honorable mention to Monkey Island 2)

IIRC, that game was developed by bioware, only published by Lucasarts. Lucasarts havent made a good game since back in the point and click days. SW:KOTOR was class..much better than any lucasarts developed SW game ive ever played.

Yea, the monkey island series kicks ass.
I have to say Monkey Island 2 was fairly class.
Also Grim Fandango , Glottis rules !

Monkey island 2 was cool i thought, but i thought the ending was really crap :(
Grim fandango rocked..but i never finished it!

Warez them, oh wait :dunno: Get your mate to warez them, no paper trail

You can buy Grim in GAME on its own. I saw a pack in GAME in Newery with Grim, Sam and Max, FT and the Dig.

You could check around offline for it as it's out of stock on the GAME website.

You can get Grim, Sam and Max and Day of the Tenticle together for £26.98 (€40 before shipping) from Amazon - You can get Full Throttle on Amazon aswell for £8.99 (€13.50)

    You could also try eBay.

    1) Monkey Island
    2) Full Throttle, very short, but fun. Runner up: Day of the Tentacle
    3) Ben from Full Throttle

Apparently it's becoming rare & out of stock in some areas - becomming rare game.

    Monkey Island 1, no contest.

(And you can read why in this week's batch of Eurogamer Reader Reviews!).

Definitly Monkey Island 1, with honourable mention to X-Wing/Tie Fighter.

also, i read in pc gamer that you could play the money island 1 sword fighting/insulting game on the net. does anyone know where the site is?

All the monkey Islands were deadly. Actually, never played the 4th one. But X-Wing is my favourite

It's good, just gets a bit confusing in the middle.

Day of the Tenticle followed by X-Wing/Tie fighter.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,918 ✭✭✭Deadwing

Monkey island 4 was cool, but as Giblet said, about halfway through, you have to learn this thing called monkey kombat. Possibly the worst pile of crap ive ever come across in a game. It completely ruined MI4. If you take MI4 on its own merits WITHOUT monkey kombat, id say it was one of the better Monkey islands, what with the starbuccanneers coffe shop and what not :D

Can't choose between Sam n Max, Monkey Island 2, Tie Fighter or Dark Forces.

What the hell happened to Lucas arts. They just started farming out licenses to underachievers like Raven. Hope they start getting it right like they did with KOTOR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

Favourite series is definately X-Wing, Tie Fighter etc.
Grim Fandango is easily their best game and one of my all-time favourites.
    Manny Calavera all the way.

Can someone explain what all the hype around KOTOR is about?

From what I have seen, it is slow, boring and tedious (yes, I know it's a role-playing game, but it really doesn't make itself particularly accessible). The plot of Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast may be simple in comparison - but the games are simply much more fun to play.

As for my vote, it'd have to be Monkey Island 2 - don't think I ever laughed as much in a game...

i didnt enjoy jedi academy nor outcast, infact i disliked them to the extent i almost snapped the disc...

KOTOR however i completed 4 times and spend god knows how many hrs playing it, far from tedious imo. Im not usually a big rpg fan but personally thought the game was great..

Jedi academy was good, but nothing compared to KOTR. it's got a cool story, good battles and lots of sith/jedi to kill.

    Dual bladed lightsabers...yes please.

Full throttle was undoubtly great I still have a copy lying around, but lets not forget games such as the dig and SW: supremacy.
Dark forces and kotor are contenders too!

Just a note on Monkey Island 4 [since was mensioned]
I bought it, as it was only MI game I didn't own - even though I was sceptical about lack of point/click interface [which I think was one major downfall].

Although, overall a good game, when not comparing with rest in series .... but when compared to 1-3, it was found lacking.

I thought Monkey Kombat was a good point of game, yes confusing etc - but brought you back to good 'ole monkey island pen & paper to jot notes days.

Swamp scene also excellent ... but overall the game just lacked the quirky humour from previous games, it wasn't as humourous, and the jokes were ... much to be desired.

For example, one of my favorite scenes in LeCheck's Revenge [2] - Use Saw with Peg Leg
    :D

The fourth one seemed to miss any such twisted humour, and although I always thought amusing how age changed ["loosing" your beard in 3rd] ... 4th was ridiculous, .... Head-B-Clear mustn't have lasting effects :(

Also slightly disappointed at such a short appearance from Murray [although they seemed to perfect his scenes].

Overall, I'd like to see the point/click interface brought back, and some non-politically correct humour :)

    Is it not abandonware?

I think it works ih the SCUMM emulator. If it does it will work in XP.
