The Lite FM website has been defaced and the feed compromised. The feed is playing, believe it or not, Muppet songs.

Not entirely sure if it's just the website or the station itself.

He says he's seeing angry faces, so I guess it must be the station. Is it a windup?

Looks like the site has been taken down...did you get a screenshot?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,808 ✭✭✭Ste.phen

Yeah, It's definitely playing "menamena" ;)
one of the links said "Q FM", probably someone broadcasting a stringer signal on the same frequency.

The guy doing the links insists he's "locked himself in the lite fm studio, trying set up a new station, Q102.2"

Someone should record this, my MP3 player wont record from the radio.

Hehe its back up with the chorus to the muppet song paster on top of the website itself (now showing 'under construction') and the muppets mahna mahna playing live :D

    Also showing 'hacked by Ray'

But then the presenter is claiming to have locked himself in the studio in a bid to creat a better radio station and looking for suggestions...

Looks more and more like a publicity stunt all the time.... Fair play to them for trying something different :)

I'm recording it, and I have the site saved. I'll take a screenshot and post it now in a minute.

He's actually in the studio, locked in. It's classic stuff.

Wouldn't it be funny if you were all wrong and it's not actually a hack? ;-)

Ah ya gotta admit it's pure genius. Two of my friends have already phoned telling me to tune in ("Rays gone MAD he's taken over litefm!"). :D

They'll get great ratings today for this and hopefully be a decent base from which to relaunch the station as something decent.

I normally hate advertising types but credit where credit is due to whoever came up with this one! :)

(and don't ya love the way the hackers are courteous enough to let the ads and the news runs as normal and on time ;) )

just because i went to the effort of doing it...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,810 ✭✭✭lodgepole

They just talked about it on the news... It's a bit of a ****ed up publicity stunt isn't it? I wouldn't have thought it'd appeal to the typical lite fm listener.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭Tazzle

It's like watching skynews with everyone posting the same picture just for shíts and giggles.

Aye, sounds like they might be relaunching to appeal to a different market then..

Ah ya gotta admit it's pure genius.

You wouldn't look at it that way if you'd ever had spend hours trawling through logs and reinstalling a server after that happens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

leeroybrown - I think it's plain it's a publicity stunt. It's even admitted as being one on radiowaves.fm

"Big Brother star Ray Shah has taken over Lite FM's on-air studios and refuses to vacate them until negotiations are complete for a decent new radio station for Dublin. That's the bizarre method that Lite FM are using to relaunch their station as Q102. The station's RDS reads ' MUPPET ' and Ray has been playing an old Muppets classic tune non-stop since 8.30 this morning - apparently every single listener is requesting it. The station's website has also been 'hijacked' with the lyrics of the song superimposed over the old Lite FM page"

they are rebranding to q102. Ray is taking over their breakfast show from next Monday.

Works for me. It's a good enough effort to make me tune in next week to see what they have to offer. In saying that, I do like LiteFM and i'll miss it. It was a better station than most.

    "Big Brother star Ray Shah"

    Who?

Must get this muppet tune and give it a listen.

Aye. By the sounds of it, they're going to turn this station into a 'wacky and crazy' spin103.8 clone.

    And Spin is fecking DIRE.

I'd like a station like LiteFM but with a younger attitude. The problem is, it seems to get that, we have to lose LiteFM.

SpinFM should be off the air... If this new direction is similar to spin, then this whole thing they're doing is a waste of time.

Yeah, big publicity stunt. Lite FM are re-branding, and re-positioning just as FM104 and 98Fm did before them.

Well, you see Mr. Comreg, I know we got a licence on the basis of a certain music policy, and for a certain audience, but having paid an enormous premium to the stations founders, we have to recover our investment somehow. Please allow us to restrict choice further in the Dublin market and offer a bland selection of music similar to 98FM, FM104, TodayFM, 2FM.

This stuff really gets up my nose! There is a limit to the number of stations that can broadcast, and as far as I am concerned this shold be distributed fairly to cater for everyones taste, not migrate to where the money is. Surely there is more than enough choice in middlemarket AOR muck? It grinds me especially when a genuinely niche player like Phantom can't get a licence.

I'd love to organise a campaign where we flood Comreg with complaints about the stunt, but even that would only generate more publicity.

He is doing interviews with people...he had Cameron from BB4 and now he is talking to Brian Ormond from Pop Idol!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 102 ✭✭OmeGar

if i could be bothered to stand up i would go turn it off. I like Lite FM, great music, only problem was how small there playlist was. that's why (IMHO) the station was loosing listeners.

from what i have read on this, they are keeping the same kind of music but dropping a lot of there talking or something.....must go dig out the Pheonix mag that had an article on this

    Who? and Who??

I dont know these people, who are they? I feel as though im getting old. God anybody that usually listenins to LiteFM must really be getting freeked out. Im going to miss it, it was a good niche channel.

God knows the airwaves dont need another Spin and never did fecking need it either. And it doesnt need another FM104 or 98FM. There is only so much people can listen to of the same top 10 tunes over and over and over ...

Hmm...so long as it doesn't turn into another crappy 98/104/spin clone, that's ok. But if their music policy has changed, I think complaints to Comreg would be more than justified.

I reckon it'll be ok, UTV own that station and they know their onions when it comes to radio..

They have already got Q102.ie but they have some fake 'page not found' thing so that its not too obvious.

    http://www.q102.ie/

I think this is the kind of cráp we'll have to listen to from now on or is it another crowd?

Rather like RedFM in Cork then... "Yea we only play stuff from the late 90's and 00's" Tossers! They weren't long realising that this seriously restricted their playlists though. Hearing the same pop drivel 6/7 times in the space of a couple of hours wasn't uncommon. Thankfully they started playing 80's stuff too, although oddly enough they're still completely shìte :D

I think that is another crowd. Although they are also a Northern Irish group, they appear from their website to be more 'British' than 'Irish' in their outlook (as opposed to UTV who actively view themselves as an all-island group).

Reminds me of how 2FM decided a few years back on the occassion of their 21st anniversary that they would not play anything that pre-existed it (i.e. before c.1980). That one quietly vanished also.

I think the fact that they use L'Derry instead of Derry gave that away. ;)

The rds on the station says MUPPET

Yeah, that plus on the conact page they give a heap of phone numbers, all with the prefix for within NI. International customers please dial 0044, etc, but not the 048 version which would be applicable from ROI. Also they are based in the Waterside, iirc this is the unionist part of Derry.

Going OT here, but does anyone know if in the North if the seperate communities have seperate licensed stations?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,692 ✭✭✭ford fiesta

Red FM do sneak in a few hits from the 80s..LISTEN at 10am weekdays they have a retro hour

A few oldies on the radio is no harm...IF RTE 2FM started playing new hits and R n' B ****e all day, it would loose listeners by the tens of thousands...Look what happened BBC Radio 1 in the Mid 90s, got rid of all the old DJs (Simon Bates, Dave Lee Travis, Alan Freeman, Bruno Brookes) started playing "new" music, within a few months it lost a few million listeners.

The old Lite FM was great, I hope the all new Q-102 will have a good mix and remember the one of the biggest radio stations in Dublin in the 80s was the old Q-102, involving Scott Williams whose head of the new station as well, where loads of now big time DJs became household names(Aiden Leonard, Gareth O'Callaghan, Al Dunne)

Everyone loves oldies on the radio...:)

048 is not the international prefix though, is it! Saying that hardly makes them hardcore Brits, does it...

As for licensed stations...eh no...you think we have Catholic FM and Proddy FM?
There are a few community stations, same as you have in Dublin with Radio Na Life etc etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,102 ✭✭✭Genghis

My apologies, EthO, one time, afaicr, you could not dial an NI number with the 0044 prefix from Ireland, you had to swap the 028 for 048. That is what I meant by my point - that they had given the number reach them from everywhere but ROI. Having dialled them myself, I stand corrected.

No offence intended at the query, it perhaps came across as a little naive. I know that the regional press in NI is very much sectarian, along with many other parts of daily life in NI, my query was simply whether this was so in local radio broadcasting.

<<yawn>> it's been done before. Either Radio Nova or Sunshine did it about 20 years ago.

Listened to Q102 a bit later that day and it's gawdawful... more of the same auld shíte that passes for broadcasting in this country

...back to my iPod I go...

hahah, Emma Ledden, Ray Shah, Dusty Roads, what a motley crew of has-beens and never-were's!

This station sounds just fscking AWFUL.

It was only a matter of time (read:years) before they had to stop calling themselves "Dublin's new 102.2 - LiteFM".

    It is what it's.
