e-mails with virus

    intresting . ive never gotton a virus claim to be eircom

    Very interesting.

    I trust obviously you have run AV anyway just to be sure.

    Where would a virus get that kind of info to send out such an email?

    Or maybe someone is trying to sully eircom's name even further...

    This is the "Bagle" virus or a variant of it.

    For the past few days not all variants have been caught by a lot of virus scanner's signatures so quite a few have been sneaking through.

    got this email today from management@esatclear.ie

    the attached email was the beagle virus, i would definately have clicked it
    only norton had got there first

    Colleague of mine got something similar with indigo.ie on it last night (and he opened the attachment :p)

    I assume it's simply pulling the domain name from email addresses and then substituting it into the text of the mail.

    Low tech, but it'll have huge impact. Particularly for normal users, the mail is extremely believable.
