strangely enough, i got the sack from my last job cos i had nothing to do and was messing around on the net (nobody had said i couldn't btw, until after they cut me loose, which wa sa bit of a shock considering i had nothing else to do and had open net access) and since i got a new contract i've been so busy i've not had time to do any surfing at all. in fact I've been in the new job 2 weeks today and this is my first post from my new job.

tbh the sacking was the best thing that could have happened to me, as i'm now in a much better job where i'm learning all the time, as well as being very busy. don't know where the last few weeks have gone.

another good point is that i thought i knew loads about the job i do (mostly desktop rollouts, but some admin/support too) but since moving here and seeing how it should be done i realised how little i did know (not to mention how backwards the other places i've worked are).

things like active directory, netIQ, loadstate, sysprep and proper use of the ghost console have made my work so much faster and easier it's unbelievable to think people are still going round with images on CD's ghosting 1 machine at a time and then manually installing apps etc.

makes you wonder why people are still doing it the old fashioned way at all. a bit of extra effort and the right tools to egin with make all the difference in the long run.

it's amazing stuff to watch first time round when you're used to doing everything manually.
