Hi, I’m going ordering a few items from Jes-computers for the first time. I saw somewhere before about the paypal option but can’t find it now. Basically I want to know if there is anything that should be flagged to me in advance as the terms are in German. Also which of the delivery options are best, and any idea how long delivery will take. Thanks

Just in case that you are using paypal for the first time, note that it takes about a month for you to activate your paypal account. Unless you have an online banking fo your credit card. What happens is paypal will charge you USD$1 in your credit card and there will be a code along with it. Once you get this code, only then can you use paypal.
Most ppl on this board just go for the wire transfer as it is cheaper.

Sorry for the ignorance how does this work?
I do have online banking with AIB if this helps

Is this true? I would have thought it would have been more expensive?

Instead of going through it all again, follow the link in my sig. IIRC, AIB charge 75c and Ulster Bank charge 50c for the transfer - not sure about the other banks. Paypal will charge 3.5%

If using AIB, you're looking to make a "Paylink Euro" payment

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Eurorunner

Thanks for that Maxheadroom - i had *assumed* that it would be much more expensive via the banks. I used to pay my irish credit card bill each month via a bank transfer from a german account and they would charge me a fortune.

Guess Irish banks dont have the exclusive rights on overcharging all of the time!

The regulations have been in force since July 2003, so check and see if you're entitled to a refund...

Well this would have been up until March 2003.
    Thanks.

Its a german shop T-bone - they dont take credit cards which is often the case with german based setups.

Options: a). Paypal or b). bank transfer.

As maxheadroom has kindly pointed out above, bank transfer is the more economic way of doing it - although the process will probably take a little longer.

Indeed, if you look at ebay.de you'll see that most items are either bank transfer or COD .... it seems a bit nuts but I suppose charges for those services are quite low in Germany (I dont know for certain, anecdotal evidence)

Some companies would ask you to pay their merchant fees. X-Case does it, however with X-case id you use paypal, then you dont pay any extra fees. I think Jes ask you to pay for their paypal fees as well. Bear in mind not all companies does this though. Only certain ones.

    Hi,
no, as far as I know you can't do this with privat account online banking.
You have to go to a branch and fill out a paper form manually.
It costs 75c and take four days to reach the german account (I am doing this all the time ;))

You can do this only online when you have business banking with AIB.

    Hope that helps,
    jow

Thanks and also the found previous link for Jes-computers. Do I order before I go to the bank to make the transfer? Or do I make transfer first? Surely order first? And is German post the way to go as apposed to GLS?

Order first definitely. Besides, at least then you can include your purchar order number with the bank transfer so that Jes could pick it up faster. As for shipping, cant say I've used either of them but geneally from the board, most of them have complaints with GLS. German post may take longer though.

Hey I placed a large order with jescomputer 2 fridays ago. I got the Iban number and swiftcode number and made the wire transfer in A.I.B the following Monday.

It takes 4 days to clear. On thursday I got an e-mail from jes saying they had received payment and my order was now being dispatched yada yada yada.

I used GLS and have been tracking the order since last friday and according to the site it should arrive tomorrow. So 5 working days from when I ordered. Not too shabby.

I've heard loads of people complain about GLS but in the last few weeks i've used them 3 times and my orders have arrived within 3 days.

I went to the bank today to wire the money , girl at desk said i'd need the switch number or id have to pay 20/30euro instead of the 75cent with the switch number. I showed her the email i recieved and she said it wasnt on there , did the rest of you get aniswicth number with the verafication email? or did you have to email them asking for it? or?

I placed two orders last week. One from JES and one from Overclockers. Overclockers was dispatched from their depot last wednesday and JES sent out their order to me last Friday. Both are being delivered by GLS but nothing has arrived so far. They are extremely slow at delivering and they NEVER answer the phone when you try to ring them. They suck big time!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,299 ✭✭✭✭BloodBath

Like I vsaid before I used GLS for 3 orders over the last couple of weeks and asll the orders arrived on time.

It took them 4 working days to deliver my jes order which I tracked from the GLS-germany site. The guy phoned me before he delivered too.

Lucky you. As I explained already, I've been tracking my two separate orders. One arrived in GLS Ireland last Friday and the other arrived on Tuesday. I have had no communication from them at all and no attempted deliveries. Tried ringing them on multiple occasions over the last few days but they do not answer the phone. So, as they are based quite close to me, I drove there this afternoon. Picked up a package there and then and waited about 1 hour for the other to come back in a van undelivered. No apologies, comments or anything of the sort. The girl who dealt with me was nice but the company sucks. If I had the choice, I would not use them. I remember running into same problems with them when I ordered stuff from Amazon before Xmas. DHL are much the same in my experience although they do answer the phone!

Over the past 6 months, I've placed 3 separate orders that were due to be delivered by GLS. I've had to collect all 3! They never rang me or attempted delivery. I tracked all 3 packages on the net and found that they were just being kept in their warehouse. For more than a week! The thing that angers me most though is that they do not answer the phone when you ring. I've tried to ring that company at least 20 times over the past 6 months and the phone has never been answered.

    Hey all,

Just realised that we have NO choice when we order from jes-computer as all deliveries outside Germany are sent via GLS, so by clicking the German post option your actually paying extra for a service that’s not available. Of course I only noticed this after I ordered my parts and obviously didn’t opt for the GLS delivery option but that’s what I’m getting. Ah well

    very helpful thread.

Just one question, does anyone know if for Bank Of Ireland if the same details as on the AIB are enough or do I require more details than that? Also, what is the name of the form in the Bank Of Ireland?

Cheers. Just placed a fairly big(for my standards) order and will be going to the Bank on Monday.

Track it through the http://www.gls-ireland.com site. Chances are it's just sitting in the GLS warehouse in Blanchardstown. If you live anywhere near Blanchardstown, I would advise collecting the packages yourself if you want it before the weekend. I have found GLS to be a terrible company.
