    hi all,

    I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any Diet / Fitness books that you found worthwhile.

    Reason being;

    Just started back training again and their is a world of stuff I have NO IDEA at all about so I my idea was to read up first, then hit the web for Qs .

    on the diet side
    I kinda just need basic knowledge like whats good to eat and why it is ? what should I stay clear of ? or what can I eat a lot of ? you know that whole area, kinda like you had to answer every noobie Qs . Like I just found out that eating breakfast was a good thing , I had thought that if I didnt eat breakfast then my body would eat the fat kind thing, and then by lunch time I would just use all the energy in my dinner to fill myself up again. Seems this isnt the case tho.
    I need something to help me lose the weight kinda thing cus the less crap I eat the less I have to kill myself in the Gym and the sooner I can better.

    On the fitness side
    I would just like to know what diff excercise's do to which muscle groups and whats the best way to work diff muscle grps. And I need something my lots of pictures cus Ive no idea unfortunatly what a lot of the muscle names are, i just know the common ones.

    Has anyone got any recommendations please ?
    Thanks

    Adrian

    I picked up an old edition of this book in a charity shop (for €1.50, I think!), and although it was written early 80's it made a lot of sense to me, and is very easy to read / well written, etc.

    Covert Bailey - Fit or Fat

    I doubt you will find the version I have, but do a search under his name in Amazon for later updates.

    I bought this book based on reviews, and while very comprehensive, it is almost academic, and thus difficult to read. Still, a very useful book to refer to, and it is very much a sports nutrition book, not a dieters book:

    Dan Bernadot - Nutrition for Serious Athletes

    In addition, I found Barry Sears to be good, though he is more to do with 'dieting / weight loss' than nutrition for fitness specifically.

    When it comes to nutrition, beware - almost anyone can become an expert "overnight", it seems there is a new diet / approach every week!
