    Ask Tony;)

The site comes highly recommended, although I do have a contact who can be cheaper, what exactly are you looking for a new installation or just sky plus to replace your excisting box??

Sounds good guys. I am ordered it now. Do i have to fill out any forms?I'm a Sky Digital subscriber already and own my digibox. Also does the telephone line have to be connected to the box at all times? Thank for the replies

You'l need a quad LNB to be able to use SKY+ fully, ie record 1 channel and watch another.

My only worry about Satellite.ie is that some other Irish dealer might put a brick through his window for being too cheap.

Down the road in Co. Tip someone was selling kit for BBC / 12 FTA channels (??*) for Eur 385.00 ex install.

(* Why they claim only 12 FTA channels?)

If you search hard you ALWAYS can find some item cheaper, but the effort of search may be high and the customer service low.

I also use www.maplin.co.uk for odds & ends, (miles cheaper than Radionics or Peats) and www.satcure.co.uk (Martin who runs it is very technical expert) is good for specialist Sat parts and repair kits etc.

I have used a few other UK companies but service appalling. IN one case the unit was obviously a faulty return, but in the end I repaired it to save postage and arguing. I'll withold the name of the guilty in case it was a once off. Repeated phone calls to troublsome UK dealers rachets up the cost.

I too have used Tonys site for to purchase a Palcom FTA receiver, last year and also found the service to be nothing short of 'Excellent'.
The receiver arrived within two days of placing an online order. Really impressed.
Like Watty, I have often used UK based companies. They may look cheaper, but with the postage and exchange rates, buying at home is cheaper in the long run.

Again I can only give 'Top Marks' to Tony and the service he provides

maplin cheaper than PEATS? Get real. PEATS has got so cheap it can now contend with KOMPLETT. Some items in PEATS are now actually a bit cheaper than on KOMPLETT. maplin are pure sh*te unless you live near them and you don't have internet access. Also PEATS staff are exellent and they always IME return goods. I once bought a MSI geforce fx 5600 256mb. It worked great for me for three weeks but all of a sudden stopped working. I think it overheated or something. Anyway I went back to PEATS with it 3 or 4 weeks after buying the card and they not only returned it, they offered me a CREATIVE FX 5600 ULTRA 128mb in replace of it. The MSI card had even dropped in price when I went back from €269 to €239. The CREATIVE card was €269. Definitely the best staff ever. Sorry if I'm gone way off topic but that had to be said. Oh yeah and sorry ofr not quoting the message I'm talking about. I forgot until I started typing this and after that I wasn't bothered.

I wounldn't buy PC parts from Mapiln, I was talking about Peats traditional orginal Electronics business, not PC DIY stuff, which is mostly overpriced everywhere now since days of 486 went out.

Peats PC stuff is cheap becuase mostly it is cheap stuff. You get approx what you pay for,

i.e. an DELL "entry level" cheapest "Dimension" might be only €400 on an offer, but it is not good value. Over 5 years for a office, a top of the range specially configured DELL Precision Workstation at €3,000 will be better value. I have nearly four year old PIII 933MHZ Dell workstaion that still works better/faster overall (and 100% XP compatible) than some new 2GHz PCs.

Interesting info, Peats used to be expensive. Can you tell me where the retail outlet is now? used to be parnell st if memory serves.

Its a better deal in Galway once you factor in shipping from Dublin and immediate availibility. Dublin also has Fernell and Radionics for those 'must have now' purchases . I bet you'll be fonder of Maplin when they open in Limerick this year :D

Last time I was physically, personally in Peats was about 1971. I had a project in the Young Scientists that year. But many School "technology" teachers still mail order Electronic Parts from Peats. My son needed a Tanatalum capacitor for a timing circuit, because Peats had none they told the Teacher an ordinary Electrolytic was just a good (it didn't even work in the Timing circuit). So I ordered the parts from Radionics. (Who have never ever in 35 years experience of buying parts been cheap).

Its across the road from where the old one used to be.
By the way, they have stopped selling satellite equipment, much to my disappointment on a trip to Dublin.

Personally I will NEVER buy from satellite. ie again until

    1. I FIRST ring them to check the stock is IN THEIR POSESSION.
    2. They put it ASIDE for me BEFORE I submit an order on their website.

Otherwise I could be waiting for weeks for the goods I ordered to arrive. They never contacted me to tell me of delays and there was more than one. I ALWAYS had to contact them ....they seemed to be rather surprised that one would expect goods within 2 weeks of ordering.

Their website does not integrate into their stock control so the best thing to do is ring and check and have it earmarked or else go to someone who does have the goods in stock.

If you are not in a hurry then no worries.

I have no recollection of anyone waiting two weeks for delivery, however this is not the place to discuss this. Perhaps you could email me with your name (as I dont know who you are) and I'll investgate this and make amends if appropriate. We ALWAYS contact customers when there is a delay

You'll know when I ring to check the stock levels in advance :D

I didn't say I wouldn't do bizniss with satellite .ie and nor did you assure me that my concerns over the linkages between the website and the stock levels had been addressed .

And yet another satellite.ie thread comes to a screeching halt.

ICDG is not the place to discuss the merits of satellite.ie and can I reiterate that ICDG neither heartily endorses or recommends Tony and his business, or do we any other site; we keep neutral on this. Tony is a valued poster here but really, discussions re: his website are best for him, his business and for us not to be here on boards.ie and ICDG.
