Thinking of buying a digibox from the UK via e-bay. If it was to be accompanied with an activated sky card-which card is the best type.
It is not a case that once you stop subscribing the card gets deactivated?

The only card that may be with the box would be either a free to view card or an ex-subscription card. Both of these will give you access to the same channels so there is no difference between them. You need to ensure that it is a second generation card (a dark blue card with a yellow house on it) as the first generation cards no longer work.

The channels that the cards decrypt are ITV1 (region depends on where the seller is from), Channel 4 and five. All of the BBC channels are now unscambled (free to air) and will work on any digibox even without a card.

If you want to view the Sky channels you will need to take out a subscription with Sky. If you do this from Ireland you will have to swap your subscription card with the one that comes with the box each time you want to wath ITV, Ch4 or five and vice versa.

If you can set up a subscription through a friend or relative in the UK then you will have all of the channels on one card without the need to keep swapping. You would then be able to sell the FTV card if you wished to. You will not however get the four irish channels on Sky using the UK sub, so you will have to stick with terrestrial reception.

ShaneOC, All that info is up here on the boards but when put together like that reply it should clear up so many questions from people who are interested in getting a FTV card etc. Great reply!!
