Anyone here running KDE 3.2 on Mandrake? If so what way did you install it? There's no sign of any RPMs on the web.
If you did it via CVS, what kind of prerequisites above those on the Mdk install CDs are needed to compile it?

OK, to partially answer my own question, the RPMs are on the Mandrake 10 RC1 CDs, but I've just copped that, and I'm in the middle of a valiant attempt to install it the hard way. I have QT 3.3 making (second time around - it worked the first time but I had left out an important option in configure, so I'm doing it again), which in itself is a first for me (yayy, me! :D) and will try installing the KDE packages one by one after that.

I have a question as regards permissions, though. I'm installing as a normal user (following the Qt install guide) and so have added the necessary QTPATH, MANPATH etc to my user .bashrc (doc said in .profile, but I don't think that matters?), but I imagine I'd need to be root to install KDE packages, no?
If so, should I edit root's .bashrc to include these new paths or will the system know that Qt is installed to /usr/local?
/usr/local/bin and /usr/local/sbin are in root's path by default.

Lots of questions, I know, but it's a biggish project for li'l ol' me.

you should jump on irc, on #unix.ie on irc.quakenet.org
someone will be around, Im usually there from 10.00pm untill very yearly :D. Will answer as many questions as i can.
I reccomend you use irssi as an irc client, its great.
I say this, just cause you might have alot of questions, and discussing them on the forums might take ages.

No progress on this yet, I still haven't managed to compile even something like kopete, let alone the whole KDE. Those beta version CDs of MDK 10 don't have the KDE 3.2 RPMs on them either, so that's a dead end.
I made and installed aRts, the kde 3.2 version, but I seem to have lost it ???
To think the amount of sheer hassle just to try and get the fecking system to remember my settings at logout!
