I have a spam filter on my mail server, though I still get junk email... I got 2 this morning, the subjects were "stay hard for week..." and "How oral sex is linked to cancer". I was going to move these to the trash but the 2nd one caught my eye...

And here is the (serious and work safe, I swear!!) web site:
    http://www.newscientist.com/news/news.jsp?id=ns99994712

Just a bit of advice for the week-end :The researchers think both cunnilingus and fellatio can infect people's mouths.

Very well-balanced article. Guaranteed it will still be abused for the purposes of scaremongering teenagers off sex though.

The risk, thankfully, is tiny. Only around 1 in 10,000 people develop oral tumours each year, and most cases are probably caused by two other popular recreational pursuits: smoking and drinking. The researchers are not recommending any changes in behaviour.

How dare you try to scare us like this.... :D

Study anything and you'll find problems with it. Even "healthy" things like Milk and Water can increase the risk of certain cancers.

I remember reading an article and that girls who "swallow" suffer less from depression. They weren't sure whether this was a chemical thing, or whether it was because they were more "open minded" so less stressed.

So everything can be good or bad. Not an article I'm going to worry about!!

It's also good for the immune system of a foetus (at least that's what research in the mid to late 90s indicated) but only if the, er, depositor is the father of the child. No I'm not kidding, it's one of those clever science facts.

Ya know, I'm 6 years in research and not once have I had an opportunity to work on a research project like that ;)

Seriously, I would imagine the risk of this is pretty low. Most viruses, including the one in this case, have serious issues overcoming the conditions in the oral mucosa, especially saliva, and while they may not be killed, their infectivity and virility are significantly lessened.

The title is misleading. The article suggests HPV is linked to Oral cancer which isn;t surprising since it's linked to cervical cancer. HPV is the virus that causes genital warts and is an std. If you aren't sure your partner is std free then you shouldn't be going down on them in the first place. No reason at all not to perform oral sex on an uninfected partner.
