I currently use one of the biggest newsgroups availble to download MP3's and such. The newsgroup provider I use is www.easynews.com. I've been using this service for about 2 years and it is excellent but I'm very concerned about some of the content of some of the groups. For those who havn't used this service before you have to browse through the groups (such as alt.binaries.games) and if you want to revisit the group you can add it to your favourties. However it's not always easy to work out the content from the group name. For instance alt.binaries.boneless is a movie posting group - but you would not know from the group name. As such you really have to go into these groups to check the content and this is where I have the issue.

I have come across at least 2 groups that have content of underage people. Now I was not browsing the goup - I had just clicked thumbnail which shows the first group of pictures to see what the content of the group was. There was no indication from the picture names what the content was. However let me stress there was no sexual content yet some of the pictures had girls dressed in bikini's and such in in-appropriate poses. I mean WTF would anyone want to be posting that for apart from sexual gratification?

My question is what should I do? Send an email to easynews complaining of the content? Is there an organisation I should make aware of this?

Sounds like it's a Usenet service, which isn't really regulated other than in the feeds it carries. I'd say mail easynet and complain about the feeds - they might stop subscribing to them.

Here is Easynews' Child Porn Policy: http://www.easynews.com/childpolicy.html

They will remove it, and send post info and header info to the US Customs and FBI.

Little off topic but i use easynews coupled with newzbin.com to search.

Newzbin is truly awesome if you sign up and can literally find anything on usenet.

I really hate easynews tbh and the only reason i use it is cas of the firewall here
