Just wondering what everyone thinks should be liverpools next manager as clearly houiller has lost the respect of the fans and the players. After sundays defeat the pressure is on big time now for him.As a disgruntled liverpool i personally wouldnt mind seeing martin o neill or the charlton boss as our next manager, even phil thompson as hes pretty decent. And also what players should leave?
Heskey, must be the luckiest footballer in briatain, been paid a fortune and playing for liverpool and england as a striker but he cant manage a blooming goal.So lads what are your thoughts as im sure there are loads of pool fans out there.

Who do you think should be the next liverpool manager?? 25 votes

I think Martin O Neill is the obvious candidate and the move would be the obvious progression of his career. Failng that Curbishly is highly rated and would also be pretty high on the list I would imagine. I don't think Liverpool will go for another european manager after gerrard. IMO What they really need is someone that is aware of the Traditions of the club so maybe Phil thompson is not as sillyan idea as it sounds at first or even Kevin Keegan as a long shot but I don't think he can handle the pressure of the really big jobs.

I hear Elmo is packing in the whole tv lark, and he would fit right in with the collection of muppets already there (heskey et al....)

But seriously prob will be: Martin O'Neil, Alan Curbishley or someone from the spanish or italian leagues

personally someone with strong liverpool links like thompson or even john toshask was even mentioned but someone is having a laugh, dont think keegan would be the man though as he cant handle the pressure.

Either Kenny Dalglish or Fabio Cappello would do for me, sadly I think it'll be Martin O'Neill.

Curbishley would be my choice if I was a Liverpool supporter. Martin O'Neill is ridiculously over-rated.

I would doubt if it will be Curbishley... He's only signed a new contract with Charlton, maybe in 2007.

I'd say Liverpool's next manager will be Martin O'Neill tbh.

firstly i dont think GH has lost the respect of all the liverpool fans. We may not have won the league but he has given us reasonable sucess unlike the last couple of managers we have had. I do, however, believe that he is far too nice to bring liverpool to that next level that we have craved for so long. Not being hard enough on the players and being too lenient on the opposition. For example on sunday he said that we were "unlucky not to equalise in the last few minutes", this was against portsmouth for fecks sake, we shouldnt have to equalise against them, we should have them dead and buried before all that, and this is the attitude that needs to be instilled in the players. There are people out there that would do anything to play in that prestigious red shirt yet some of the muppets on the display shouldnt even get near melwood. Stevie G is the only one that shows the desire in every game, all we need to do is adopt a genetic duplication programme and use Heskey, Smicer and Biscan as test dummies.

    what bout claudio ranieiri???

if he gets sacked by chelski then he'd be a good option i think.

I have to agree with you - He would bring alot to the club.. especially attacking football <the only problem is the tinkering his does with his squads>

I have to admit that Claudio Ranieri would be an attractive option. Martin O'Neill I think would be my favourite - possibly he's ready to leave Celtic soon. I really don't think that there is too much more that he can achieve there - he's done a fantastic job.

I don't really rate John Toshack and if we were to sack GH now I think we would end up with someone like that.

Kevin Keegan could be an outside bet but there is one or two problems with him as a manager. He would be more attack minded which would be cool but he wouldn't add any consistancy to the team which is what is needed if Liverpool are to win the league. Every now and again City appear to be doing great and I get impressed but then they fall flat on their faces.

The jury is still out on Ranieiri but I would fear he is very like GH in that he messes with his team selections too much . Considering the funds available to him I would also question some of his signings . Some of them have not been very good to date but i admit that may change in time. If he was given the Goal of winning the league in his first year he should have been buying proven players instead of good prospects.
Whoever takes over Anfield, a lot is going to depend on the funds available to him to strenghten the squad, i dont think there will be a quick fix to Liverpools problems even with a new Manager.

Might as well be Ronald McDonald as they've only had Clowns for the last few years, so why change now.

Ideally Fabio Cappello, but can't see him going to Liverpool.

Martin O'Neill would be the best option IMO.

What about Mourinho? At least he would annoy Fergie

    :)

pls not MON. ihate Liverpool and have a gr8 time for MON. Liverpool are very like Celtic and have potential if they had the drive, ambition and consistiency that Martin O'Neill could bring in. lets hope he doesnt!!

o'Neill is the obvious choice but i dont think he will leave celtic in a hurry

    how about alan hanson
he seems to know alot about soccer but i dont know if he would go into the job if offered plus he has no experience
still i think they need an liverpool old boy

There is some excellent managers out there and the majority of them would love a chance to bring Liverpool bacl from the dead! Its still a massive club dispite recent seasons, with an incredibly loyal fan base and enough financial clout to hold their own in the transfer market!

I reckon John Toshack could take over, if not i d like Ranieri if he came available and then third choice Martin O'Neill

Not trying to start an argument but I would be genuinely interested to know why some people think O Neill is over rated. I think he is an excellent manager and he would have been my choice to replace fergie when he was suppose to be retiring a few yeasrs back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    Alan Curbishley please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,441 ✭✭✭✭jesus_thats_gre

I can see why people think O'Neill would be the perfect choice. However, what has he really done? What has he done that GH has not done already and would he really be able to build on the last 5 years?

He has won he Scottish league... Finishing 2nd/3rd/4th/5th in the PL is a considerably better achievement. He got the the final of the UEFA, GH has one it with Liverpool..... There is not really much to distinguish both to be honest.

OOOOh someone's a bit touchy about Liverpool being rubbish and having Sh!te manager's for the past few years are'nt they.
Let's face it nobody fears fears Liverpool anymore they are an easy touch !
And until they get somebody who's prepared to and capable of putting the club back where it should be and playing some exciting football then it will be even longer than Man u went without winning the league (26 Years) till Liverpool do it again.

Oh and by the way How do you know I'm a Tosser ?? have we met ??

That's a fairly big statement - I hope your wrong but hey, we're nearly half way to 26 years already...

Was it really only 26 years? seemed like longer:cool:

O'Neill resurrected Leicster and now celtic. He can make average players look good and above average players great. Look what he did with Hartson compared to Houllier with Heskey, Sutton vs. Baros, Dudek vs Douglas?!?!? Houllier bought in form players and noe they've slipped, O'Neill bought off form players and raised thier game and got the most out of them

I fear it will be Curbishly. I hope its Curbishly.

But my sneeking suspicion is Sven. He is a life long Reds fan and also said mid week that he want sto take a big club that under achieving, a sleeping giant etc.

His relationship with the Fa is BAD and the rip and alan smith affair annoyed him no end.

After Euro2004 I think he'll go and to Liverpool. Just an feeling but one that I think its worth a score in the bookies and i have done.

Although O'Neil would be a good choice I doubt he will eave Celtic for Liverpool

I'd like to see one of the following David o Leary, Sam allardyce or martin o Neill. But we'll probably end up with John Barnes. After all he's an ex Liverpool player and has previous experience of managing one of Britain’s biggest clubs.

Kenny Dalglish, Fabio Capello or even Gordon Strachan would do for me. I can't see anyone but O'Neill getting it though.

No he didn't he bought average players and let them play against below average players in the Scottish leagues. That is why they look so good, it has nothing to do with O' Neills ability, rather it has to do with the quality they have to compete against week in week out.

I don't think O'Neill will be the next manager also. And there's no way Alan Hansen will come out of his nice cushy TV job to manage a football club. Too much stress. He would have done it long ago if he wanted it.

We need someone the likes of Allardyce. O'Leary would also be in my top 3 selection or Hitzfeld.

If you got a spare tenner, put it on Munich to win CL. Once they overcome Real next week, they'll march all the way. Now at 28-1.
