i always thought of maplin as a very good shop with great service!

but it turns out it's just the same as all the other computer shops in Dublin! LOW!

i went to buy 2 packs of DVD+Rs, they are under special deal, they didn't have it! i preordered them(pay 10% of the full sum) I ordered on wednesday, they tell me it will be on friday and they'll call me! friday comes no call! I call them on monday, they tell me they have them in stock I tell them I'll be there in 5 mins, I come only 1 left! they don't sell it to me, cause it's other customers! they tell me your order comes tomorrow, today no call again!

    this is really dissapointing

Only in Ireland can a company be run so badly and treat their customers like ****ing clowns and get away with it. Cyberghost i understand why your dissapointed. that is really messed up.

did you ever cue in maplins? well maybe thats a stupid question coz if you did you are probably still there waiting so you cant read this, oh well- and as for the highly trained and specialised support staff well need i say more - if you are going to pay stupid prices at least go somewhere where the people who are ripping you of know what they are talking about.
    end of rant

    UPDATE: guess what!

today i had a little business on Jervis street, while i was there I went into maplin and they have them! and like jasperok said the queues are LONG! one guy works while the other just stands and scratches his head wondering around! I had to wait 40 minutes in a queue lol! 40!

    hmm other country?

actually it was a great price! 65 for 50 DVD+Rs

i went in to maplins in blanch the other day to get the nforce2 motherboard and athlon XP 2600+ for €230, and after the salesman trying to sell me another deal (a motherboard which, according to him supports a 4.7 Pentium 4 - weird), they hadnt any of the motherboards i wanted in stock.

I went into maplins in town today, and they had the stuff in stock so i asked the guy was the chip a thoroughbred or a barton chip (256kb difference in L2 cache so a significant difference) and nobody in the shop could tell me, told me to ring blanch to find out and nobody there could tell me either.

Ended up ordering the 2800+ barton and a better motherboard off komplett for €220 with next day delivery.

They are good for CD/DVD-Rs and some wires/adapters.

    oh man!

If i was a boss of maplin, first i'd fire the manager for hiring such unprofessional stuff, then the salespersons,
the head of maplin probably saves a lot of money on hiring cheap salespeople but loses even more by losing customers beacause of this cheap stuff

yesterday, there were many customers with expensive things to buy like mobos and hds and many of those just put those things back and left! and all because of the queue and bad service! and that happens everyday! can you imagine how much money they lose?

Maplins have a great selection which is why I keep going back there, but what people said about the queues is true.

I remember asking a sales guy in there for 20m of wire once, there was a large queue behind me at this stage. He was so unbelievably slow about measuring it. Finally he did anyway and then verrrrrry slowly started to wind it up - it was laughable how slow he was doing this, personally I didn't care so much as I wasn't in a hurry but everyone behind me was getting so pissed. Someone said to the sales guy, can he open another till or something...he just points to the other one which had equally as big a queue, THEN he starts complaing to me how impatient people are!

I've only ever brought one thing back as well and the guy was extremely arrogant and even rude about it, he really didn't want to take it back, even though it was clearly broken.

So not the best of experiences from this customer either :(

they are not bad if you need something quick (ie cant wait for delivery) - better than there being nowhere to buy the kind of stuff we need - remember before maplin? where did you buy your gear retail? Peats? Wihtout MAplin, peats would still be charging huge prices...

but yeah - their service is total garbage - I waited 10 minutes while 3 (yes that's 3) sales guys all fluted about trying to find out the price of some toy or other which the chick didn't even say she was buying!!! She just asked the price!!! When the 3rd guy came over I just lost the plot and asked if someone could spare the time to take my money? No satisfaction in it - they stole 10 minutes of my life... I'll get them....
    10 minutes....

    Rats....
