Week 3 Business League Results :(

It was bound to happen some night...

I started to worry when La Fortezza was on his feet about 15 minutes in, a bad beat on the river and he was out 9th at his table.

That scared the crap out of me cos I wasnt doing so well and I lost my nerves and played far too timidly and went out 8th (after a hard-to-bear hand where a guy limped in with a flush on the river to take about 500 from my aces and jacks).

Dapper and Gerire I didnt get to talk to much but both were out 7th and muso was put out by the worst luck I've seen as 5th at his table but at least kept us somewhat proud.

So by my reckoning we scored 18 this week which will keep us up the top but we could easily be caught if one of the chasers had a decent week.

Sorry Hyzepher and Pudding, I was just so nervous when I saw La Fortezza get blown out so early that I let myself get chipped away seeing flops and then not pushing it and folding stuff I should probably have called on.

We dropped the ball guys... :(:(

I was following your advice Dev, you said to loosen up a touch as the n00bs could easily be bluffed off various hands.
I went out on about the 5th hand of the evening.
I had bullets, bet preflop, got 2 callers, flop came down A-8-x, I think lovely stuff here's my first big pot of the night, I go all in, just in case theres a flush draw anywhere with 2 hearts on the board.

One guy calls!! I flip my bullets, he flips 10-9 suited, he's got 3 of a straight, no pairs, no flush draw.
Can you guess what the turn and river threw up? A Jack and a seven....

    go teem baords! :(woo

Actually, its worse than we think, Emuse the team that was in second, has leapfrogged us in the league table.
After I finished in the Merrion at about 11pm, I called back into the fitz to see if they had the scores done up. Luke was there and the first thing he said was "What the hell happened to your team this week?"
Emuse are about 3 points ahead of us now, he didn't have the scores or results to hand but he said he was surprised to see we had been overtaken.

Just remembered how DapperGent went out. AJ hearts, flop sohws a heart that he chases to the river even though someone put him all in on the turn, silly boy.

I wish we were. And myself and Dev went up to the Merrion after and it didn't get much better, made a stupid call with AQ suited and got knocked out by pocket KK.
Dev seemed to be doing fairly good though when I left.

Now I know I dont believe you guys - is it just me or do I feel a stitch up where myself and MrP are the fall guys - it's not coincidence that you think we are the tightest players known to god or man - and I cant believe anyone would go all-in against those noobs - surely you guys aren't that naive.

    Say it isn't so

Well I think I just got unlucky, put all in with trip Aces by a guy with 3 of a straight on the flop? Its a no brainer, or so I thought.
Dunno how Dev or Gerire got knocked out.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,035 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

I'm not slagging about tight play. I played tight last night but of the 4 that beat me I would say one was a lucky idiot and the other 4 knew what they were doing. I just got blinded away which was prolonged by one or two uncalled all-ins when I had to make a move. It was a tough table and I would not expect a repeat.

Chris, I aint kidding man and I think if you can get someone else to play instead of me you should. We can come back from this but I'll remain as sub and play if we're stuck. We need our best team out there and I'm not in it. :(

Well if we did have a bad night - and it's not that bad - one bad night doesn't make you a bad player - just a wiser one.

I agree that Dev is a bit of a liability, if he's not able to put up some decent competition against some total beginners in a one table freezeout then best let someone else take over.

My bad beat was just one of those things that happen in poker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,838 ✭✭✭DapperGent

I'd agree. I just don't think DeV has the stones for it.

2nd place, 2nd place, 9th place from a bad beat. I'm not trying to be harsh but do we want to win or play happy families? I'd put DapperGent on the same level as you Dev, you're both terrible terrible players. no offence.

    BOI - Marketing Gang 95
    Casino Enterprises 94
    Bank of Scotland 90
    AIB - Bensor's revenge 88
    BOS - Modest Mick's Mavericks 88
    Larry Murphys 80
    M.C.S 80
    R.L.S 80
    Mick Ferron 78
    Hibernian 75
    Amari 72
    BOS - Movers & Shakers 41

    5 Top Scoring Individuals
    Catherine Tynan - M.S.C 31
    Alan Robertson - Pelko 29
    Denis McCarthy - I.C.C 29
    Luke Brady - Boards.ie 28
    Mark McMahon - Emuse 28

Congrats to Luke but given that we are playing 7 people in rotation we can probably kiss goodbye to the Top 5 scoring individuals.... no loss as our strategy is that we shouldnt be pushing it that hard anyway.

Oh and Dappergent, come here... come here! I want a little word in your shell-like about me and my stones :):)

We have to give Emuse respect (and they read this board btw, I found out last night /me waves hiyaaa!

They also told me that they were gunning for us last night, particularly at Muso's table (Their best player is Mark who was playing against you Muso).

They aint no muppets but we have a nice evenly matched team and if we can keep the same consistency going (my stones not withstanding) we seem to have a winning strategy.

I talked to Mr Pudding, who doesnt have web access at the moment. I told him the wind up first and he was very understanding!

Finally, when I was writing "ohhh yeah... I remember that." I was having so much of a giggle I could barely type it... sorry chris, but it was La Fort's idea (and he really DID give me a hell of a shock by pretending to be out, and I sitting there with 200 chips left and all the players at my table!)

Am I mistaken or are you not sitting out next week too? If it comes down to it and you have a shot on the last week, I'm happy to step aside to let you have a shot at the title.

I doubt there's a prize for highest single person score, if there is then I'll give you a generous cut. I'm not playing week 4, playing week 5 though. See what happens.
How did you get on last night?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 4,668 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hyzepher

At the end of week 5 most people will have played 4 so it will be interesting to see what our individual scores are - afaik lafortezza & Gerire are the only ones to have played each week so far.

If we go the way we are going week 6 will be a formality - we are 28 in front now, my guess is that we only need to increase it to 35 to be sure of winning. In that case we should try and win the individual total as well - which will be a great feat since none of us will have played all 6 weeks.

Got down to the last dozen or so (I much much much prefer the Fitz for its information on the big screen, I couldnt tell shít about blinds, people, time etc)

Blew out on a couple of 50/50's that didnt go my way abd got caught with my hand in the cookie jar (albeit with a straight draw holding KJ) and got spanked for it.

My head was mush from the rush of playing in the business league... its fnckin' crazy ****. I felt like I hadnt a clue what was going on half the time and I got nailed by a few guys who were limping around with "bombs" but I wasnt going all in on hands I probably would have on Thursdays.

I bet A's and J's to about 800 euro or more over three bets and a bloke limped into the turn and river and got a flush. We had to explain to him that he had a flush as he was chasing a straight. Some crazy sh*t going on.

From the start I did badly, I ended up down to about 150 chips, maybe 200. Waited for my hand and went all in on the next decent hand I got (I was about to get blinded) and it stood up with 5 (count them 5) callers. After that I didnt look back until it was a 3-way game and I didnt care then since the two guys left were Amari and Hibernian and I just wanted a break so I played a good bit looser had a bit of fun and took a walk on 44 versus 99 ... which in 3-way seemed harsh!

I enjoyed it but I'm glad we've built up a lead cos Liam Flood could get knocked out first at those tables.

hmmmm... our biggest strength at the moment is that we are not risking things to get individual scores though... I dont think it will do us much harm but we still need to make sure of those 3rd places...

Every night there is 55 points up for grabs....even 28 points ahead we can easily be leapfrogged in one night.... lets not get complacent because they will be gunning for us for sure now...

    DeV.

Sorry - didn't come out the way I wanted. What I meant to say is that we should continue as we are going and with a little luck we may be able to focus on the individual score on week 6 - not beforehand!

Yeah strangely Mark has been at my table both times I have played. I beat him to second first time around but not his time. A good player indeed (just to soften you up Mark if you are reading) but he was all-in early on last night due to some bad luck and managed to survive and become chip leader with 4 of us left. When I went out 4th (I really thought I could hang on for third but some other guy got lucky and outlasted me) he asked me what my nick was and said they were reading boards so a nice healthy competition is developing. Speak up Emuse we are all friends here.

    See. Complete lack of cojones.

I have a feeling they'll all be gunning for us from next week on. They'll have to. I don't think the fitz is too happy with one team breaking off from the group like we are. Last night at my table the dealer asked was there anyone from boards, then told everyone that I was the enemy.

I don't think they'll need that pointed out to them again next week.

Yeah, next week they will be gunning for us ok, but I dont really see what difference that can make? If they dont go up against us then we win and suvive (which is our strategy). If they go up against us bluffing then since we are playing tight we should take their chips... if they go up against us with real cards... well thats poker!

Unless they are waiting for us outside with bats I dont see how they can really target us all that effectively and none of them are going to sacrafice themselves to take us down, I mean look how tight the chasing pack is and there's a cash prize for second and third too remember....

    DeV.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 4,668 Mod ✭✭✭✭Hyzepher

If I was Emuse I would be more worried witht he teams behind than bothering with us. We have won more points each week than anyone and have led from the start - if I was them I would concentrate on staying 2nd and if that eats away at our lead then thats a bonus for them.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

There is split opinion on whether we should wear the t-shirts or not... some people might think we are being bigheaded etc. Personally I'll wear one on the last night (remember we're goin' drinkin' that night too!). I have to find somewhere that can print on Black Tee's too...

    Leave it with me...

I'd like a tshirt too, but I won't wear it in the Fitz, and especially not in the business league, I think we're taking it alot more serious than some of the other team, which is part of the reason we're winning but I don't want to be christened a knobend by Fitz people if I can help it.

Yeah that was a really good night again, only dropping a few points.

Playing the first anti with 2 good cards to see the flop isnt going to wat into your chips. We all know at this stage that patience is our saving grace, we have no problem going to the fitz and sitting there twiddling our thumbs for 2 hours and coming in a high position for doing sweet f-all. And its worked so far.

Go team boards, might put my head in next Monday for a few mins but good luck to y'all next week.

<snip by DeV... see the FNWAI board>
