Hmm, lets see, the rules for this forum are, and I quote:
What is not allowed is as follows
Advertising - Topics/posts that contain this will be both edited and locked. If you wish to buy add space, contact DeVore.

Flaming - Posts containing personal attacks on another user will be edited/deleted.

Spamming - Topics/posts that are just complete nonsense will be deleted.

Racism - Topics/posts containing such will be edited/deleted accordingly.

Porn - Topics/posts containing such will be deleted on sight.

Off Topic - Posts that stray off topic will be edited/deleted, depending on their relevance to the topic at hand

This is the After Hours forum, right? Ie. Non-work related posts. This post of mine to inform the community of a penpal service is not work related, nor is it advertising a product. It is informing the community of a service - not advertising. Nor is it Flaming, Spamming, Racist, Pornographic, and since it is the GENERAL forum, it is not off topic as I started the thread.

So, wise up and let people who want to know about the site go to it to actually be FRIENDLY.

    John,

Looks like you should read your own rules and understand them.

Hi Paul. I suppose the way I'd look at it would depend on whether the site was a money making venture or not (depends whether there's advertising or not). Having said that, I'm not the mod for this forum and Monty may take a different view (which he's fully entitled to do as the trustee for the forum)

I'd suggest you put a link to the site in your sig (available from UserCP at the top of the page). if it's a text link, short of it being a link to a pornographic site, almost no-one ever complains.

We've had hassle with people pimping services for sale on the boards probably since they began. Often it's easier to shoot on site and organise the dead later. There are far too many people who register seemingly just to pimp something, profit-making or not.

There's no banners on the site at all, and it is completely free for membership. It's just for people to get in contact with people in other countries - I thought it would have been interesting for people, but obviously not here.

Everyone is welcome to join anyway - that's where I'll leave it.

If you were not interested in penpals, then noone forced you to click the topic. Noone forced you to read it. Also, noone forced you to reply to it to bump up your post count.

If you are planning to post advertisments on boards, just don't do it. We will remove them immediately, and then ban you. If you wish to purchase advertising from boards.ie, please contact adverts@boards.ie

That's taken directly from the rules that every user has to agree with before their account on Boards.ie is created. It's even written in big red letters so simple folk can spot it... but I guess nothing is completely foolproof.

Those rules apply to the entire site and you are in violation of them.

    It's Mr Park Ranger

    Kinda reminds me of http://www.childrenaware.com/
which I still reckon was a vanity project at best, hopefully not more than an email address collection device. (still has not been updated)

I had to think about that one for a minute or two as I couldn't see it in the post above. Clicked with me then - it's on the site - there's no other name on the front page.
