    Hi,

I recently updated my Mame Plus verion to 0.79.
I cannot seem to get Pole Position(pole pos 2 or rally-x either) to run !

Am I missing a new bios file update ?
Anyone else have this problem ?

    Cheers,
    Brian.

It could be that the name of the rom/game that the version of mame you are running has changed. You can get a program called "clrmamepro" which will audit your roms and give them the correct names for the latest version of mame.

    http://www.clrmame.com/

    Hope that helps.

    thanks for the help.
I ran clrmame and found I was missing a few files from the polepos.zip.

However, I also found out from M.A.W.S. that Pole Position (and others) have been changed for 0.79. I now have an outdated zip file and will need to get the latest which, as its so recent, I'll ahve to wait for :(

thanks for this info, i am building a cabinet to hold a mame running machine and rally-x is one of the classics that is a must have, i just ordered 6 dvd's with mame .79 and ALL the roms so hopefully I won't have to audit them but there's no harm in having the link

    cheers

    I'm building a cabinet as well :)

Must build a control panel first.
Are you using a TV or Monitor in the cabinet?

I'll be using a 25" TV with Mame Plus.

    Building a control panel with...
    2 x 8-way joysticks + 6 btns each.
    1 x 4-way joystick + 2 btns.
    1p Start Btn + 2p Start Btn.
    Esc Btn + 1Coin Btn.

Hope to model it on (see attached file).

very nice... you running it through windows or DOS?... Mame plus doesn't ring a bell at all, is it a frontend or a version of the emulator?

you may have this site already but check it out, pretty helpful

my setup will be pretty much the same, why the 4 way stick and 2 buttons?....

what are you using for the keyboard encoder (ie. i-pac, etc?)

25 inch is the right job, pretty cool

    Windows XP.

Mame Plus is a version of Mame32 with extra bit n'bobs.

The 4-Way is for games like Pacman, Kung Fu Master, etc... that only recognise 4 input positions from the controller. Pacman on a 8-way stick is...frustrating.

I hope to use the i-pac (56 input).

I've been to www.arcadecontrols.com alright. Some great ideas for cabinets etc...
Are you building a ceb from scratch of gutting an existing one ?

scratch, and making the keyboard encoder myself also based on the design on this site ....

what spec is ur machine? mine is an old P3 550, 256 RAM, 10GB hard disk, piece of sh!t really....

the 8-ways i got have a switch on the bottom of them that allow you to change them to 4-ways (plan to hinge the top of the controls for easy access)

so do you have it set to launch straight into the game selection? i'm doing it through DOS to try and eliminate as much of the windows enviroment as possible, looks more authentic, i hope anyway!

    I have a AMD 2200xp, 512mb, 60GB, Ge Force4 Ti 4200.

It will probably lauch windows. Even though its maybe not as realistic, it will be easerier for launching other apps etc...

I've not bought it yet but have priced it.

With I-Pac, shipping, TAX and VAT it will be around €300

Full set of MAME roms is 7.94GB. I hope someone is not charging you for a set of MAME roms...

There is a group on the net who freely distribute the roms sets for postage and media costs only...I won't give the name here as per forum rules

thats the group i got them from... there's also other stuff on the discs, artwork files, cabinet pictures, older versions of mame, marquees, etc etc.....

but one or two of the discs had about 6 games each that were massive, don't recall which they were as i was only interested in the popular games and if they were that big then my DOS machine probably wouldn't run them anyway... it stuggles with mortal kombat 1!!

yeah, and some of those games would require more than even todays top of the range systems !?
