Does sky+ allow you to receive teletext. My RTE has no text on Sky+.
I am certain that it used to have, but I am not sure when it changed. Maybe with dual record?
My mirror digibox is fine. Is this just me or is it a Sky+ feature

    Thanks
    Dil

Yes Sky+ does allow teletext on RTÉ.

I have not heard of anyone else having this problem with a Sky+ box but it was seen by a few people previously with Grundig (I think) digiboxes. I think plugging the box out for a minute or two cured the problem for a while.

Not sure if they ever got it fixed permanently.

Teletext on my Sky+ has never given any problems - touch wood.

Digital text (Sky & BBC) and analogue text (RTE)?

Either way unplugging the box for a few minutes should fix the problem.

Yep leaving the box disconnected for a few minutes sorts out this problem. I done this a couple of times and it always worked. I also had a problem where the red button feature would not work and disconnecting the sky box for a few minutes also sorted that problem out!

    Thanks,

I'll power it down later on, and hopefully that'll sort it.

I'd pay money to have the red button NOT appear.

Yes, though the original Teletext is in fact just as digital, especially on Satellite, where it has a separate stream and not in the picture. The Digibox (and any other Digital receiver that properly handles teletext, inserts this digital stream into a few blank lines (originally 2, but I think now 4) at the top of the decoded analog TV picture. It is still digital. The TV's teletext decoder is fed with those lines as if they were serial data.

The problem with digiboxes is that sometimes they "forget" or miss sending the command to the reinsertion chip (which uses I2C serial data inside the Digibox).

Almost certinally a slight bug somewhere in Digibox SW.

Its even technically possible for the Digibox to translate Sky/BBC interactive text (which is no more interactive than teletext) and create a teletext "magasine" for a TV on the RF socket in a different room to browse.

I have no idea why the new "interactive" text pages are not cached more like teletext (digital) data is cached in "FastText" TVs. Some TVs and PC cards will cache the entire magasine giving instant Teletext access on any page.

Apart from 1/4 screen video and pictures (both demonstrated on teletext over 20 years ago) I see no advantage and lots of disadvantages to the new proprietary "Text" schemes which don't work on anything except a Digibox.

yes, i hate that blasted thing. since the dual record upgrade i cant get rid of the thing by pressing red and backup straight after. it keeps coming back  so now i pause for a second and press play

Funny, I never get the red dot since I switched to the palcom DSL4 for Sky News and BBC, the picture is better too. I think the non-RGB Digibox out is a bit overcoloured.

I don't have a sub so there are only 3 channels the Digibox does not on the Palcom box.

I think mayb e UK TV started the red dot too before I cancelled. Which (pay) channels have the dot?

off the top of my head

    Sky One Mix
    all UKTV
all MTV channels except the main one
    Challenge
    Sky Sports
Sky Movies (but not during a film)
    Sky Travel

cant think of any more atm
