    Just got a Text saying:

    “U have Won 50
    Euro To play For
    Instant Cash. Call
    Dub 01 4580999.
    EVERY 6th Player
    WINS Minimum 50
    to 500 Euro! Max
    Prize
    50,000Euro.Must
    optinOptout
    1800200981”

    Sender:
    Credit Balance
    FAFLTD

Now I’m in work so I’m tempted to ring the Dublin number but I don’t know if I should…
I know its probably a scam but I don’t understand how they’d make money from me ringing that number.
    Anyone else get this?

I got that text this morning as well but, like you, thinking it was a scam didn't bother phoning although it is a Dublin number and not a 1550 or 1580 number. Let us know how you get on.

I got that one and deleted it purely for annoying me with its syntax

'EVERY blah Player WINS Minimum 50 to 500 Euro!'

Surely if the minimum prize is 50 THEN THAT IS WHAT THE MINIMUM IS and cannot also be a number larger than 50 [ie 51-500]?

I guess the company are doing it knowing they'll make a loss but will make people happy

Ring the bloody number if you're that curious. Just don't forget what happened to that poor cat (R.I.P.)

Sure it wasn't a 1580 number? Usuially they go for the jugular and charge the full €2 odd per minute for 5 minutes :ninja:

    It is what it's.

i never understood how they could say YOU HAVE WON AT LEAST ___ EUROS and yet you would never end up with the money. Surely if you go through the process you must get something? Is there not some legality? I've always been tempted to ring up

By the way i got that msgs too.

Yea but don’t forget what happened to the guy in the Coke add his curiosity was reworded with a nice free vanilla Coke...

P.S. I didn’t ring the number in the end and I now know what would have happened so I’m a happy camper.

It's not spam as such. You have to ring the number you arfe given over the phone and then you play this game called spin the wheel or something and you just keep pressing the star button and answer the odd general knowledge question.

It claims every sixth person is a winner but i was'nt the sixth player. The call has to last about 15 minutes though and id say its problady really expensive rate per minute.

By the way does anyone have the number of that quiz you can ring up for that was always advertised on TG4 and shows someone driving away on a Harley?

Im working a couple of hours a week in a call center so ive unlimited access to phones no matter how expensive. How bad eh?

Generally call centers know who's at what phone at what time (you have to log in after all to get calls through). They most likely know what you're doing.

I got that spam too, I guess the reason they are advertising an '01' number which then prompts you to dial a 1550 number is to try and circumvent RegTel's ban on directly spamvertising 1550 numbers. They can get their 1550 number disconnected for doing it.

Best way to get back at the is to block your caller-id and dial the 1-800 'optin-optout' number, then listen to the requests for your mobile number but do not give it. They'll have to pay for the 1800 call themselves.

Vodaphone has a special number 50005 for forwarding spams, not sure how effective they are but it could be worth doing.

Get a grip, just passing on what I've experienced in call centers. They can be cheap and sneaky.

I just got the original text today aswell, it's doing the rounds i guess so.
