One for the older boards members here. I've seen them whinge and whine about the state of boards at the moment a few times since i've joined so i'm curious to know:

Would ye rather boards as it is now, or as it was a few years ago i.e. less members, less posts, less forums, but more community etc?

    Old style, definately.

I don't know how it was before as i'm kinda new here, but there's some serious misuse of power going on in some forums here that i can't understand how it's tolerated by the admins. Was it always like this?

I don't mind so many new members but I prefered when there was a lot less forums. Too much choice for me....

To be honest I can't really remember how things used to be.

I think there are far too many
    time wasting forums
    'specially places like pic'n'mix, which
sometimes doesn't get posted in for weeks.

Currently there are far too many forums,
    really they should be
    all consolidated into
    perhaps 10-15 forums.

Games should deffo be one, why the hell do you need a subforum for each genre??

Why the hell do you needlessly spoiler things Precariousnuts?

So it doesn't ruin the rest of the post

    THERE'S a lie if ever I heard one :p .

I didn't venture past the cs forum for nearly the first 2 years of boards. Now I never visit it. I'm not OLDSKOOL but I've seen change. For the better mostly.

Happened on a forum that I used to visit alot.

At first it was a more communal forum (Offering help with programming type stuff). The site got even more and more popular due to the quality of posts etc.

Then it got more business like.... lots of forums lots of members, lost its feel.

Site got even more professional and strict. The origianl communal members had passed onto another site.... the newer members got sick of it and all the rules etc.

The site is still popular. Its a place you would post if you needed help or whatever. But its usually not the first place you'd post.

Also the mod's have grown in a way the same as boards. In nearly every topic you'll usually find at least one mod (Not of that forum) has posted in the topic. Boards is popular... it has grown past what it used to be. You are likely to have friends that post here and not know it.

Eventually if it keeps growing it will have no feeling to it all. Perhaps branching the forums off into seperate sites would be a good idea (?)

But its not like its anything that needs to be spoilered. Your just putting it in for the sake of having it there. Whats so secretive about:

Personally, I like Pick 'n' Mix - and its seen a lot of activity lately. I just think its named really badly. It doesn't instantly stand out as a Photoshopping forum, does it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,601 ✭✭✭Kali

I still read the same boards after whatever amount of years, so theres no real difference... except when it was just Quake related boards I'd actually know a big percentage of the posters, god knows what that % is now ;)

I don’t post as often as most of the people who have been members as long as me but I read a lot of the posts. I think things have been getting a bit more serious and less fun since I joined.
The old heads all kind off knew each other and would slag each other off but never generally take it too seriously. Now everyone gets so defensive if anything is said because they don’t know each other as well.
The amount of sub forums in my opinion is a bad thing because people don’t check all of them and sometimes its hard to tell where to post something.

But hey its certainly the main site I use on this here inter weby thingy…

Um... I don't think you fully understand the consequence if the CS board was merged with others....

No, I like the way it is now...

It's evolved...let it fly on it;s own wings and see where it goes. I think the moderation is excellent and keeps it on a higher level to some otehr similar sites I have seen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

In nearly every forum the mods are excellent, fair, friendly and very approachable. But not all:(
