Strings and Things

I'm interested in finding out people's opinions on strings. In particular i'd like to know what strings people feel have proven best for acoustic guitar and why. I have tried D'addario JL16s which are terrific but perhaps lack a little brightness (not much) on the bass end (at least on my guitar - a GORGEOUS McIroy A30!!).

I now have a set of (horrendously expensive) Elixir Nanowebs on which I just can't make my mind up. They are superb for single note playing, helping your hands fly over the strings and have a ton of sparkle and brightness (maybe a little brashness too?). The polymer coating is ... interesting. One the one hand it eliminates squeaks and you can slide all over the place and on the other hand, your hands can seem a little less 'anchored' on certain chords (e.g. barre chords in the first two frets). Maybe they'll settle down but for €20+ for set there perhaps shouldn't be any doubts in my mind??

What do ye guys and gals suggest I try in the future?

Don't know about acoustic strings, but Dean Markley Blue Steels are great for electric. Last 6 months and still sound great.
