hey just lookin for some opinions on the line6 variax guitar. Does any1 here own one or hear any good/bad stories about it - the 500 series one btw. I just wanna kno how it sounds and if the guitar sounds are anywhere near as good as the actual different guitars. Also are they good for recording or playin live?
I was also thinkin of buyin the line6 spider 2.

To afford this i will have to sell my marshall mg100dfx, jackson warrior XT, ibanez sa160 with emghz on bridge and maybe more stuff. would it be worth it! i like to play ratm, in flames, metallica and **** like that btw.

Also if any1 knows where to get this gear cheap post the link/shop!
    Thanks alot

Not worth getting rid of all that gear. I've heard people saying that it's only a close approximation of the sounds of the various guitars and that the guitar itself is not overly nice to play. Personally, I'd spend my money on upgrading your pickups (to EMG's of course :D) and maybe get a tube amp.

Keep your current gear. No question. No question at all.

I heard the same thing as feylya: it sounds good, but not great, and isn't especially good to play.

Is the Spider 2 amp better than mg100dfx?

The Spider II is apparently a budget POD in a very nice sounding amp. Don't do too much but it's still a quality product.

I'm just quoting a friend here so it may be wrong. I've never used one though. Personally, I prefer my effects to be seperate from the amp.

I want a guitar that sounds huge preferably below 500 euro but i could stretch a little further. Should i get an epiphone and put emgs or seymour duncans in it? I dont want to upgrade my warrior. Any1 got any suggestions? the Schecter C1 perhaps?

Mahogany body with EMG's. Check guitar trader for LTD EC-100 and up. Something with a fixed bridge should do.

I dont want a floyd rose tremolo cause i wanna be able to downtune it etc.

that's why I suggested a fixed bridge....... Although you can down tune with a floyd. I've mine in Drop C.

Would you think of selling your current guitars and boosting your €500 budget, then buy a good guitar, rather than an Epiphone, which I think are seriously overrated. You can pick up incredible bargains from the States at the moment due to the strength of the Euro against the Dollar and simply because it's a buyers market over there. Buy a real Gibson instead of an Epiphone and you won't need to change your pickups at further expense. You could pick up a real quality Les Paul for about €800-€900 (maybe one that's not great cosmetically, but structurally and tonally sound) or any decent guitar for about half what you'd pay for it here. At the money you're thinking of spending you'd be f*cking nuts to buy new. Good tone starts with a good guitar, the guitar influences how you play and what you play. If you compromise there it'll just be heard clearer by a better amp. The quality of wood and craftsmanship, not just the type of wood makes a huge difference, no matter what pickups you have, because the strings and the wood interact and that's what a pickup picks up. Save up and get a quality instrument, there are bargains to be had (eg dabhoys got a mint PRS McCarty for €900) and there is always an idiot somewhere who doesn't know the value of a quality guitar. Exploit those people.

Couldn't agree more with the Doc. eBay is a great place if you know what your doing. I've gotten most of my rig off it. PRS for €900 I should have at least paid another 500 for it!!! about the same aswell!!!

I used to own a Epiphone Custom. There would grand did the job no complaints for me. But I was under the impression that they we're just the same as the Gibson only made in Korea. But there is such a huge difference in the quality of build.

The wood, frets and everything all play a massive part in the tone. And Justin is right a good amps picks that up. You can easily get your hands on a decent Les Paul Gibson on eBay from anywhere from $500+

Even the Studio model les paul has it goods. Get that thing set up right. You'll be flying. The fret work should be good on them.

Sometimes in rare occasions you find a good one out of the rest with the Budget lines. But its rare. I would agree totally in saving a little more wait that bit longer and get the quality guitar. You'll appreciate it in the long wrong. Get the idea out of the head that the Epi is the same as the Gibson. I used to be under that illusion. But then I got a slap in the face and saw the light when I actually played a Gibson and then a PRS!!!

Save man and go for the Gibson....

Yes, hands down. The value of a marshall amp halves if you take the marshall logo off.
