Recent newspaper murmerings.Don't like the idea.
Recently joined up with eircom's €2 a month scheme to block spam at ISP level.
A little worried whether our ideas of "definite" would coincide.
What the hell, if its really important, it should come by registered post.
It is a wonderful feeling running one's e-mail application and not being reminded by half the females of the known world about the short comings of my wee Willy, amongst other things.
Could this be an alternative to a payment per e-mail scheme?
Now, how do you get the spammers to use it?

You must be crazy paying eircom money just to stop spam
Why don't you just use a decent e-mail program with filtering such as thunderbird?

They are basically making you pay for what they should be doing anyway.

I'd refuse the charge then join up to as many mailing lists possible.

    Exactly.
Wouldn't pay for it in a blind fit

    One word; "SpamBayes" - http://spambayes.sourceforge.net

I'd rather have a German fella eat my meat & two veg than pay eircom to do something they should do as standard.

yes of course they should. just like An Post should be filtering your regular mail so you don't get any junk.

I agree they should do it for subscription customers for no extra charge, but why should they be doing it on the free service?

Doesnt that imply that email and post are the exact same service?

    Comparison can't be made.

if anyone got as much junk mail through the post as they do via email, about three quarters of the population of Ireland would get a sack full of post every day. It's a hell of a lot easier to screen email for junk than regular post, requiring less time & virutally no man-power, so I would expect it for free. UTV do it for free, although their filter seems to operate on Kerryman logic.

Don't An Post offer a service to companies to deliver mail shots?

And yes you crazy for paying for that!

Why not use some free software, or even outlooks spam thingy is alright, if you spend the time to configure it.

An post get paid to send junk mail. Junk email costs eircom and the customers to recieve it. So they should just stop it (can't be that hard).

As for junk mail in the post. The best thing to do is to take the freepost letters you get with the junk mail and mail them someone elses junk mail and visa versa. Works wonders as they can never work out who sent them the crap and have to pay An Post for the freepost.

If you've a DSL line why not just install your own domain name and mail server - then you can run SpamAssassin for free on it!
