Just saw the ad for 24 season 3, starting next week on Net 2 Tuesday night at 10pm.
All i can say is that i'm delighted.
Will it be starting in Net 2 before Sky?
If it does, then Sky wasted a lot of money advertising it over the last couple of weeks.
Glad to see that Jack's back, probably my fav tv show.

There's always that large island to the east of us where RTE isn't available:)

But the ad's are on RTE, which is what i don't get.
They're hardly advertising to UK by having the ad's on RTE.

They have been promoting sky digital on n2 for some strange reason lately.

Its either that or i was really imagining things as it surprised the heck out of me.

my g/f told me she was reading in the sky mag that (MAJOR)
    jack dies in this series.

don't know if it's true or not, but some of the previews might seem to indicate that if you pay attention.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,997 ✭✭✭The_Bullman

tags just because the last guy had them
The Sky mag didn't say that he would die. Instead it was something along the lines of that they wanted to make it seem that any of the major characters could die. I doubt he does though

Well I've seen the first 11 episodes so I can answer that:
Load of cobblers. Sutherland said that to indicate that he thought killing him off would be a neat idea to catch viewers unaware and display what the show is capable of. He said it to fool ye all into thinking he'd die - he never said such a thing. He's still happily alive, eleven hours on. Who else is alive? Well you'll have to wait and see.

Ive seen up to ep 11 and the franchise is definitly beginning to run out of steam. Theres a few moments of cliff-hanging suprise and some nice plot devices but on the whole, its becoming a little tired. Its a shame cos it was my favorite thing on tv for the past 2 years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 340 ✭✭DrEvil

i disagree and do not think it's running out of steam and the last ep was the best one so far this series imo

    Ah, indeed not.

At least with Sky you'll know what time things are on though (not that I think RTE will be foolhardy to move 24 around like they do with everything else).

Apart from Sky generally pushing their new place as the "new drama that actually might be good as opposed to all the crap we've been showing for ten years" <takes breath> station, I can't even make up an explanation

Maybe your g/f was reading spoilers about season 2, because that did happen then (technically).

True, and as jack made it through what happened to him in Season 2 I can't see anything even slowing him down!

I've been living in a cave for the last couple of years, and haven't seen the first two series. I'll be watching them at some stage, but for now i'll be starting at series three. As long as it's not all a case of having had to watch the first two first!

i just watched the first two series in four days....... and people say us students are good for nothing :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 340 ✭✭DrEvil

    two series in four days

well done there, that's about 42hours of tv in 4 days!!!

but for now i'll be starting at series three. As long as it's not all a case of having had to watch the first two first!

watch at least series 1 before watching series 3 as few things are mentioned by characters, that happened in series 1 and 2, and will ruin one or two of the brilliant suprises and twists from those series. Also by watching the latest series you will know who survived the first 2days!

    Worst. Continuity. Ever.
Guy get shot in the neck, and within two hours is back running the show with nary a scratch. Then t'other boy gets tortured and has his noggin bet in with a shovel. Takes him all of 45 minutes to be back running commando operations with only the tiniest of scratches on his cheek.

Starts tonight, cant wait............and they got it before sky1, they didnt give a lot of warning i only saw an ad for the 1st time for it on Net2 last week whereas sky have been advertising it for the guts of a month..................

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Sky are advertising it during every single ad break during primetime. Overkill, imo....

Lets just hope Network 2 don't drop the ball and show bloody greyhound racing or on some Tuesday night about 10 weeks in.... :)

are they repeating on saturday ?

are BBC2/3 showing it either ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 235 ✭✭Go Figure!

Just be aware that tonights showing on Network Two is the edited version of the premiere. The full version of the premiere will be shown on Sky One on Thursday night and is fifteen minutes longer then the Network Two version. Capt'n Midnight there will be no repeat on Saturday on RTE, however Sky One will repeat the episode on Saturday and Sky One Mix will show it on Sunday. This series will not be shown on the BBC as has been well publised for those who have been awake!
    :)

Be interesting to see what ye all think. I'm halfway through the day now and it's ... it's okay. Some good, some bad. There's one appallingly poor storyline though - can't wait to see your reactions.

For those of you who have seen it, don't you think that the:
Chloe baby storyline is absolutely bloody dreadful?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,641 ✭✭✭✭Elmo

How many people have seen the new series?

Will N2 be showing adds during tonights episode. If not the full hour will be shown, as the first episode in the states was sponsored without adds by FORD.

    ???????????????????

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,530 ✭✭✭patch

Who said N2 were showing an edited version?
Is that for sure or is someone looking at times and not ad breaks and comparing the two?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,074 ✭✭✭BendiBus

I thought it was RTE policy NOT to show edited programming. They either show it as it was made, or don't broadcast it at all. At least that is my understanding as regards films. I also think it is the correct approach.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,942 ✭✭✭Mac daddy

5 and a half hours to go for series 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The full version in the states (without ads) was 51 mins. Tonight should be the full unedited version (albeit with ads).

The yanks had the 2 or 3 minute time lapses where the ads should have been, and the whole show was 10 minutes less than an hour long.

    - Dave.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Anyone want to time it with a stopwatch? Any less than 51 mins, and we'll complain to Network 2. :)

    - Dave.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 18,002 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Be prepared to complain then 'coz ALL US TV programs are shorter here than in the US due to frame rate differences...

Yes, it is pitiful :o It is worse than the absurd Kim storylines from the first two series.

It's definitely gonna be a looooong day if the rest of the season drags as badly as last night's episode did.

Easily the worst season opener of the lot. Lots of annoying new & returning characters(Palmers I'm looking at both of you).

Can't say any of the plot threads were interesting. I know it's only the season opener, but season 1+2 did a much better job of hooking me from the start. Think I'll revert to watching Nip/Tuck & sky plus '24' to watch when I'm bored & nothing else to watch..

To be honest, as a huge 24 buff, I was dissapointed as well by last nights eepisode. But, I'm gonna stick around for the next 23 hours becuase, you just have to.

    P.S. Whta's up with Adam.

 I think David and Sherry Palmer are 2 of the best characters in the series! It'd be lost without them. The character who needs to get the boot is Kim- she should've went after season 1!!

Nice to see it back at last.

RTE could have easily shown the full hour with out adds, as could sky, I suppose Sky are showing 90mins 30mins of adds tomorrow.

And are Nieva for Men just sponsoring the adds for the show?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,255 ✭✭✭TCamen

I meant David & Wayne Palmer.

Sherry is a lot more interesting than either of them, but even she got boring towards the end of last season. Still would prefer her any day over the other Palmers.
RTE could have easily shown the full hour with out adds, as could sky, I suppose Sky are showing 90mins 30mins of adds tomorrow.

As for Net2 having ad breaks, FOX had Ford sponsoring the commercial-free premiere, so unless some company was gonna pay RTE to not have advertising, i.e cover the cost of the breaks, I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to pass up revenue. Same goes for Sky.

Also, '24' is only an hour tomorrow night, with commercials, 9pm-10pm. Cold Case is on at 10pm.
