it's not dinner exactly. It's like over a cup of coffee or something quick. As Henry said, you have a quick chat and after a certain amount of time everybody switches. I'd say it'd be a good laugh if you were outgoing enough to enjoy it. Personally I'd rather stab myself in the eyes with little sharks than have a go

I like the sound of speed dating. Nothing's worse than realising you're talking to an absolute plank five minutes into a conversation but she either won't shut up and let you slink off or you have to keep talking so your buddy has a chance to pull her friend. It sounds good. You get enough time (I think it's actually more like 5-10 mins) to see if you hit it off with a girl, you get a chance to move on if it's not going well and odds are you'll hit it off with at least one person.

It's got a lot going for it. You know the girls there are looking to meet someone. You don't have any of that trying to read body language accross a crowded bar to know should you approach or not. There's a fair chance you'll meet someone you like and the offiousness (is that a word?) of the whole situation will help you avoid hurting the feelings of anyone you don't like.

Personally I'm a negative sod. As soon as I'd walk in the door all my insecurities would surface saying "I'm on the pull and this is the absolute best I can look". You'll feel you're in competition with all the other horny bastards and I can't imagine making interesting conversation with a succession of strangers. 'specially since I'm unemployed atm and that whole "What do you do" thing is a non-starter.

I went to one of those speeddating things, told noone what i did, and asked noone what they did. If they have to rate you on your "job" then they are not worth talking to.
I had some questions like what was the last cd you bought, that gave me a good idea of what they liked, very bizarre when one guy told me he could not remember last time he bought a cd. I did not tick him!!

I think it's a good idea to head to one of these events for the craic if you're single and don't give a damn.

I was in Sosumi about 6 months ago with a friend of mine, there was one of the smaller events on (24 participitants). We hadn't a clue at the time, but found out what was going on from the guys who were coming up to the bar.

Anyway, after the event ended the crowd broke up and all started hanging around the bar where myself and my mate were sitting - and the girls started hitting on us (Neither of us is the best looking guy in the world, nor were we particularly well dressed). One group of girls who'd been at the event were insistant that we head to a local club with them. I can only imagine that they were comparing us to the guys who they'd seen, and the fact that we weren't there for it made us less unattractive in some way. No offense intended to anyone who's actually been, just speculating as to the thought processes of said women

And no, we didn't go, both married at the time

So I thoroughly recommend y'all check out venues where it's being run... and arrive 20 minutes before it's due to end.
