There was a study done not too long ago by a dental research group, maybe they were in Sweden or Denmark, and they imply that sodium lauryl sulphate may contribute to the formation of mouth ulcers, especially among a population that is already liable to the ulcers. Many toothpastes have the foaming agent/detergent as part of their formulation, although one that doesn't have it is "Zendium" made by Oral-B.
