I don't want to put the wind up you but I don't want you to potentially get ripped off either.

Have a look at this thread and check out the references to Western Union and security.

Then look at the thread started by eth0_ here.

Ask the seller if they'll accept anything else other than Western Union. If not, ask them why not.

Better still, given that the auction is now over and no-one here can take your purchase away from you, post up the details before sending /any/ money so we can see if it's an obvious scam. I'm not just scaremongering - purchasers who want to scam you tend to use (forged) bank drafts these days, sellers who want to scam you use Western Union. Doesn't mean that everyone using either service is out to scam anyone, they're just the tools of choice.

At least (at worst) if anything does go wrong most of your money will be protected under the ebay guarantee thingie. That's assuming you won the auction and that you weren't offered a private transaction after losing one. If it's the latter (losnig and the kindly seller or someone else offering you something off-site), don't touch it with WU.

"Will ship to United States only." <-- won't that be a problem?

He has good feedback, but it's all for small items like CD's and hats. It's weird he doesn't take paypal, all the yanks do IME. Be careful.

Ah you're probably fine there. 100% positive feedback, not just from new members, the guiy's sold the odd item (at least the one guitar) of similar value and it's too small a value for the big scammers. Mostly small value items but I wouldn't worry about this seller if I was the one buying.

Sorry for pushing the boat about on the warning - wouldn't want to see someone suddenly send five grand for something and not see their money or item. Still worth trying to get him to take Paypal or something similar instead of WU though.

Looks like a nice mixer there. Nosey boy is wondering: what's the shipping going to set you back from Florida to monaghan? Try to arrange some kind of recorded shipping, at least you know there's something on the way that won't get lost (even if it turns out to be a few bricks in a box:))

he doesnt mind shipping to ireland, i have been in correspondance for the past few hours with him sorting things out.

global shipping with tracking (4-5 days deliverly) =$69

the (brand new) Mixer = $215

exact same mixer anywere in ireland = (not less than) €459

    so $215 + $69 = $284
in euros thats (according to xe.com) = €230

being chuffed with this auction = priceless
    €230 Vs. €459

    hopfully it will arrive safely.

Don't forget that there were a load of STOLEN bank drafts here in Ireland - the paper is GENUINE - the only way to tell is to ring up the bank (office hours only :( ) and you have no come back as the banks won't honour them despite their charging for the issuing of drafts.

Won't they accept payment with escrow?

    Use Bidpay.com
Sounds like exactly what you need. I use it all the time for eBay members who don't accept Paypal.
