i could not believe when i picked up an issue of PC Live and saw they were charging for the CDROM that usually comes on the cover?

Its been a long time since i bought a copy but there is no way i am dialling a 1550 number or sending a premium text to get a CD which should be included. I paid €2 for the magazine and i should get my CD

Whats going on. And they say english mags are a rip off!

€2 euro seems pretty cheap? Has the price dropped with out the cd? Maybe its just giving people the option to get the cd or not. Seems like a good idea, with some people actually having broadband these days along with cd or dvd rw's. :|

Afaik, the price has stayed the same, although now theres an extra Live section at the back!

This way, they cut down on manufacturing costs for the cd's (not everyone is happy calling a premium number to get it) and make money whil doing it aswell (premium numbers)

they dropped the price so that u have an option to get (or not) the cd. as with any "free " givaway the cost is built into the price of the unit so this way u dont have to get it(and pay for it) if u dont want it. Id say itd work out bout the sae as buyiny the mag for around €5 and getting the "free" cd

Yeah sure it used to be like a fiver.

2 euro is really cheap. Its a way better set up cos the CD's were crap. All freeware anyway

It was several years ago i bought PC live and on the CD it had a demo of Tie Fighter.
It is still my faverate or 2nd faverate space combat game. (Free Lancer is very good aswell, so is BOP)

I think it's a good idea (and afaik they can't put them on due to recycling laws)

Don't most people throw them out?

Company i used to work for made their cds for 0.04 cents each.
That must really be high costs.

Well as far as I know new laws that came in to effect this month. Regarding Newspread not being allowed to send out **** loads of newspapers to shops etc.

The're the same company who do Compuscope which is a great magazine.

The magazine is too glossy - anyone ever get micro mart - nice technical articals and all on newsprint.

PC shopper - spot the factual innacuracies - the one that stands out is the arsed up interupt table - just because a journalist uses a computer does not make them comptent enough to write about them.
