    just wondering if anyone out there has ever been to the island of madeira?
    if so, what are your thoughts and opinions on it?
    thinking of going this summer for 2 weeks with the missus.
    any information on the best resorts to stay in and the best hotels would be greatly appreciated!!

    I was there a good few years ago ! Well worth the visit ---lots to see but you need to hire a car to get around and the roads are lethal. The place is all mountains.

    No beaches at all on the whole island but there's an island, Porto Santo about 15 mins flight away and it has a great beach if you need a break from the rocks, and a good dip!

    The Madeira wine is superb!

    just booked it today - 2 weeks in the sun in june, and i can't wait!!
    i've heard about the local wine from a few people at this stage!!
    we'll definitely be booking a car for a few days so that we can see as much of the island as possible.
