Yeah, new Dets have far too much crap for the new line of cards and it only ends up degrading performance on the Geforce 2.

This is not strictly correct. The new Det's have areas that an older card cannot utilise and where some newer driver versions show a decrease in performance, as a general rule the older cards can still benefit from some of the newer enhancements. I have an older Geforce2 card and have been upgrading my drivers since before Det's ver 13.10. Using 3DMark2001 this is what I have found.

    Herc GEFORCE 2 MX: (Antlaliasing-none/Frame Buffer-Double/
    Texture Format-Compressed/Z-Buffer Depth-24bit/
    Rendering Pipeline-D3D Hardware T&L).

    3DMark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 1216(Herc 7.52).

    3DMark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 1310(Det's 10.80-7.58opngl).

    3DMark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 1335(Det's 10.80 -7.58opngl).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2165(Herc 14.10).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2212(Det's 21.81).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2275(Det's 21.83).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2426(Det's 23.11).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2460(Det's 28.32).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2248(Det's 30.82).

    3Dmark2001 @ 1024x768 16 = 2832 (Det's 53.03).
