A reasonably complete usenet currently runs to 0.6TBytes per day (nearly 60Mbit/sec running all day every day). I figure for an ISP to provision that service reliably should cost them a bare minimum of EUR20,000 per month. That's assuming five days of archives - 3TBytes which is more than ftp.heanet.ie stores right now - and ignoring insurance against legal liability which probably isn't possible anyway.

You might like these people who also have some statistics to browse through.

Giganews and EuroFeeds are two providers that seem to be good.

You wont find a decent free usenet service, end of story. It just costs too much as longword has pointed out.

actually it has passed 800G/day avg. quite a while ago and approaching 1TB avg quickly :)

the best NSP is easynews - 27days retention (2+years for text), web interface (a complete seconday nntp system too) and best speeds (connected directly via 6 links to the internet backbone) however you get what you pay for

    free binaries? forget about it

Anybody with usenet access and bandwith willing to d/l these for me?

They are fan made reconstructions of lost Dr.Who episodes... They are public domain and even acknowledged by the BBC...
