What's that all about? It looks completely mad! Sure there was even one that only had those UV lights. Is it to hide something or highlight something??

    It is what it's.

    It's so people can't inject.
    They can't see their veins.

It seems to be particularly good at showing up dandruff (not that I have any :D ) on a persons shoulders - so maybe that's the reason..

it's good for showing up those last traces of coke you would otherwise have missed

Here's one explanation I came across here
I have heard of no effect whereby veins become visible when
illuminated by UV light. Human eyes are not sensitive to UV photons,
so under pure UV light nothing would be visible unless there
were some fluorescence effect of which I am not aware. Furthermore,
UV radiation can be very dangerous, and can be used only when
emitted by properly designed and installed lamps for specific
applications, such as germicidal purposes. So, I do not recommend
UV for the use you have in mind. What you might try is a blue light.
Veins under the skin tend to appear blue because the skin above
tends to absorb some of the red light which the venous blood
reflects, leaving the bluish remainder to be seen. If only blue light
were used to illuminate the skin, then everything would reflect the
same blue color, and the veins might not be so readily visible. In
contrast, a red light might make the veins stand out more. You can try
this on yourself with a regular incandescent lamp and red and blue
filters, or with a blue incandescent bulb and a red one.

    .. So there ya go!

If they are UV lights its to annoy junkies trying to get a hit. You cannot see coke under UV lights when its on a white surface or something like that. Not too sure.
[edit]As pointed out above its so you cant see your veins. Knew it was something liek that :) [/edit]

If it was blue and not UV .... where ever the **** you where is really trying to make itself seem quite 'trendy' and 'hip'.

along with most fast-food restaurants in the city, or any other toilets that are of easy access to people.

If you dont like to think about the real reason the lights are there then just imagine youve entered some kind of futuristic time toilet and its the year 2400.

    lol

Although it's still quite possible to find a vein under UV lights, it makes it a little more difficult to pinpoint them. A lot of junkies would prefer not to make a mistake when injecting.

As is said, it mainly just messes with your overall vision, whether you're snorting, injecting, or rolling up.

Yeah, I've always wondered about that myself. I've seen them in Liffey Valley (at the food court) and in Trinity College!

That was the general way to bypass this, trace the vein lines with a blue pen was the usual. Kinda gave themselves away tho.... really shoulda worn a longsleeve. Lol :)

Doesn't spunk show up under uv lights as a white stain, let's hope no one was messy getting busy that day with themselves or others.

Actually, after further researching this subject, it apparently just encourages junkies to seek out more dangerous entry points. This includes injecting directly into the groin. Isn't that nice.

Yeah I saw that staggering home one night at about 2am. They had left the lights on in the toilets and you could see which rooms were toilets from the street.
