ATM Scam

The latest ATM scam involves thieves putting a thin, clear, rigid plastic 'sleeve' into the ATM card slot. When you insert your
card, the machine can't read the strip, so it keeps asking you to re-enter
your PIN number. Meanwhile, someone behind you watches as you tap in
your number. Eventually you give up, thinking the machine has
swallowed your card and you walk away. The thieves then remove the plastic
sleeve complete with card, and empty your account. The way to avoid this
    is to
run your finger along the card slot before you put your card in.
The sleeve has a couple of tiny prongs that the thieves need to get
the sleeve out of the slot, and you'll be able to feel them.

Anyone suffered from this ATM scam yet?

saw an article in the paper down here in cork about it. crazy stuff. just shows how far people are willing to go to get your bank details and your money.

another way is that there is a small camera in the sleeve to record your PIN and your details are recorded by a reader in the plastic sleeve and sent wirelessly to a nearby computer!

The machine will reject the card if it can't read the strip. It can't ask for a PIN if it can't read the card.

Criminals are willing to go as far as Cork to engage in thievery? Why the very suggestion is offensive!

    How did they do that?
Do they even need the card to tkae out money form your account!

my account was cleared of course but the bank refunded every penny

Theres no shortage of them down there according to media reports.

Another scam is them hovering when you use an atm and getting your pin. They the pickpocket the card and empty your account.

The Lebanese loop has been around a number of years now .

Whereas the technology may exist, as minute as it may be it's still too large to fit into an ATM slot. Unless of course there's an odd little box anywhere near the ATM.

    It is what it's.
