    STEWARDESS JETTISONED

An overweight air stewardness will not get her job back after being sacked for refusing to shed pounds.

A court ruled that Indian Airlines was not in the wrong when it demanded Nipa Dhar lose 23lbs (10kg).

But Calcutta High Court said the company could reassign the 37-year-old to ground duty on humanitarian grounds.

Ms Dhar joined the airline as a trainee flight attendant in 1987 when the company's rules required her to maintain a weight proportional to her height.

The company sent Ms Dhar a letter three years ago warning her she was overweight and needed to slim down.

Ms Dhar's counsel Madhumita Roy said her client was unable to lose weight as she suffered from "phobic anxiety".

    fair enuff
she signed up to the rules.
How about this though... ur airline ticket entitles you to an overall weight movement from airport A to airport B. You and your baggage included.

so why arent we weighed while booking a ticket?

Is a 25 stone person with luggage which reaches the luggage weight limit going to be charged more for their seat?

thats perfectly reasonable. she signed up for it on her contract. models and actresses sign similar waivers for pure visual reasons. if it comes down to the airplanes wieght etc etc then why not?

thats what i'm getting at, cos otherwise I'm paying more for my ticket than they are. on a pound for pound basis. which as much a discrimantion as the reverse

Why the unhappy smiley, that strikes me as eminently practical on the airlines behalf, a tubby stewardess isnt much use in a confined working area like a plane, as for her "phobic anxiety", I have some advice PUT DOWN THE FORK LARDASS.

Who wants someone with phobic anxiety working on a plane anyway, what good would she be in an emergency?

More stealth taxes & incentives to stop eating for disgusting fatbodies are the way to go.

    Just for information.

    Male 90kgs
    Female 70kgs
    Child 35kgs

Cabin crew 75kgs. (incl hand baggage)

    Baggage is weighed.

I dont believe that someone who is overweight should pay more, only that the grossly obese pay for 2 damn seats rather than demand it or overflow from their centre seat in economy over the poor passengers either side..

Are we supposed to feel sorry? She knew the rules when she signed up! She agreed to them by signing the contract. Now she's had too many burgers and is too lazy to slim (oh sorry, she's got a "phobia"). Yet another ridiculous lawsuit, like the countless "injuries" people suffer in Ireland (ohh the McDonalds cleaning station squirted soap in my thick son's eyes - gimme ten thousand euro!)

what I'm saying is though, say me at 75kg and my baggage allowance at, I don't know, 15kg thats 90kg to Paris for €100. No mister/mrs horizontally challenged weighing in at easily 20kg more is bringing 110kg to paris for the same money. Why can't I (or more to the point my missus) bring more baggage to Paris to make up the difference in the weight?

The reason isnt that people are limited to the standard weights i gave, only that they are average weights, based on demographics. They also have to allow for some error so are slightly over the european average, but below lets say the American average, with a bit of room for error thrown in.

For example they cannot compare the average person in China to the average American, and they cannot be exact average because if the aircraft happens to be carrying the obesity association of America they might not make it off the ground when expected. (20kgs per person for 350 people = 7 tons)

Soooo.... You cannot claim that because you weigh less than the average that you deserve more baggage allowance.

Ignore these links - thought they were relevant to this..

    ..
You know the 1929 Warsaw convention that appears on the tickets etc.

    http://www.generali.com/library/airline/appendix4.html

Had thought these would list weights. they don't
