CD WOW! - An Important Announcement
    Guys

CDwow have been forced to charge for delivery, i would say i will be ordering elsewhere after this for films, pity

    Dear Member,

The UK Major record companies through their mouth piece the BPI* have unfortunately restricted the UK and Irish consumers right to enjoy the freedom of the World Wide Web.

As from this weekend, any CD ordered for delivery to the UK and Ireland will incur a surcharge as we are only able to deliver CDs manufactured within the EU (more expensive).

Delivery to the rest of the world will not be affected.

You only have a few days left - so order now!

Be quick to make the best of our current low low prices while you can still exercise your right to choose.

We will of course still be supplying UK and Irish customers but as of Sunday 25th January 2004 a surcharge of 3.00 Euros (£2.00) per CD will apply.

i think the charge only applys to CDs and does not effect the .hk site. DVDs should be ok.
think there was a thread or two about this in After Hours

DVDs are fine. Their e-mail to me told me so.

there's still no charge for delivery.
It says any order for delivery in the UK and Ireland but that's not really a delivery cost.

you must have missed the part (in bold lettering)

"We will of course still be supplying UK and Irish customers but as of Sunday 25th January 2004 a surcharge of 3.00 Euros (£2.00) per CD will apply.

Please Note - our prices of DVDs and Games will remain unaffected

    Warmest Regards,
    CD WOW! "

As long as DVDs remain unaffected I don't really mind, but how long now til some other twats decide to sue them over dvd prices.

The only thing I've ever found CD Wow good for is CD's.
Their DVD and game prices aren't great, always use Play.com for DVD's and Ebay UK for games.
They can all feck off now, I'm just gonna download the albums from Kazaa if they're gonna pull this ****.

Hopefully a while. The CD thing worked out 'coz they were shipping them from outside Europe and its copyright zone. The DVDs are - by region encoding - European already and not Eastern versions (they're, I think, Region 4). So there's not the same copyright violation to get them on.

ditto..I would rather pay (a reasonable amount) for a good cd (to reward the musicians and for peace of mind)...as long as Im not being ripped off...if the choice is gonna be extortionate prices vs illegal downloads...its kazaa all the way for me.......

Actually if you check cdwow.ie you'll see that there are R1, R2, and R3 discs on there, which means there are copyrights being broken left right and center...so they could be next.

If you noticed play.com disassociated their R1 dvd site from the R2 stuff..specifically to address this issue I think......

Whoa? Was this a music DVD? The ruling is for CDs ONLY. There should be NO surcharge for DVDs!!!

Play.com operate out of Jersey, CD-Wow operate out of Hong Kong, so CD-WOW can sell R2 and R3 legally (R2 - Japan, R3 - rest of Asia). Play can only sell R2. Just because the domain is .ie it doesn't mean they are an Irish company. So I don't think anything can be done to them about selling multiple regions.

Actually thinking about this a bit more...copyright ownership doesnt necessarily follow the same region boundaries as Region Coding...therefore since AFIAK that since the BPI thing was based on breach of copyright then this or a similar charge could quite easily end up being charged for any of CD-WOW's products that are shipped across a copyright boundary.
