Its a new concert launched last year to be the Irish version of the Reading Festival in england.

It was in the RDS last year when Metallica/Linkin Park co-headlined with support from the Darkness. That was just a launching kinda thing.

This year its in Co. Laois and is a 2-day event (ala Witnness). No bands lined up for it as yet unfortunately.

And yeah o2 now sponsor Witnness. Same event really just that apparently the name will now be Oxygen or some ****e like that.

I hope this Reading Ireland idea hasn't been pushed aside. I too haven't heard much about it over the last couple of months. Plus, the fact that MCD put a stake in Mean Fiddler doesn't make it so hot.

Hopefully O2 will improve Witnness over what Guinness did. But Oxygen? If so, thats a bad start; it's hardly a bloody rave.

witnness has only been changed to oxygen because the gov don't want loads of alcohol advertisements while we got the eu presidency

and reading ireland has got a license for 2 days, but they said last year that they wanted to go for the full 3 days but haven't heard anything since

I wouldn't be too worried to be honest. Nothing has been said about the UK version of Reading yet either so its to be expected that the Irish one is quiet too.

Also nothings been said of Slane really either apart from a few rumours floating around, but you still know its going to happen,

Witnness, Oxygen, why don't Heineken step in and it could be called Hydrogen next year....

Witnness/Oxygen....who cares what it's called, that event has always been nothing more than a complete money grabbing spamfest for MCD. At least The Carling Weekend has always had a nice varied line-up from metal to punk to pop....rememebr those two who were on before Slipknot a few years back? :dunno:

Witnness tends to cater more for the Frames/indie people. Last year's was actually toned down deliberatley to stop the jumping around/fun had during Greenday/ foos/Less Than Jake, from the year before. If ur into your singer/songwriter....Sh*tuff. have fun. If not save your money for Reading ireland and stop caring what the hell they have that other crap labelled as.

    ^my own opinion^ :)

i couldnt agree with you moe dregin-x, last year i was at witnness but the line up sucked so much that the only act i went to see was the sugar babes to sing get your tits out fo the lads. the festival was great an all well th cmpin part of it any road.

we need a festival that provides a variety of music especially punk and ska. hopeully AFI, Blink182, Funeral for a friend and the rest will be at reading ireland. that would be a festival worth going to.

    Reading
You have to say even if reading does come it will hav just asmany crap bands as witnness usually has when i was at reading travis headlined one night for example.still a bit wary bout mcd's involvement in witnness and reading.Theres gonna be line-up probems look at the white stripes they cancelled both witnness and reading last year so they should therefore play both this year but they hardly are gonna play ireland twice in the space of 2 months.Id say the strokes have gotta play one of them.I think travis are confirmed for t in the park now aswell so it aint gettin better id like to c muse though.

yeh witness was a fairly narrow type of music last year but i still enjoyed it, was a good laugh, was a better line up the year before although the prodigy headlining sucked.

muse are supposed to be at witness this year, hopefully anyway, will go just to see them and drink warm cans of beer for 2 days solid :)

Hold on till the middle of April, then it should be revealed whether this jig is even going ahead in the first place.

That'd be about right actually. Reading/Leeds is always the week after Slane and Slane is usually on around 20/21/22/23/24/25th August
