What did ye think of Donnie Darko? Personally, I think it's one of the best films ever made. I love films where i'm asking all the way through "What the feck is going on?"!
You definitely have to watch it a second time. I was telling a friend about it and he rented it out and thought it was the biggest load of ****e ever:rolleyes:

    What did ye think?

I thought it was ok but i neaver got around to watching it a second time.
It was much better than LOTR anyway

    best film ever imo:)

the only time i've ever watched a film twice back to back

I wouldn't say it's the best film ever, but I really really liked it. And I did order the DVD online right after watching it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,905 ✭✭✭User45701

I might buy the DVD, does it have any special features such as deleted scens and alternite endings?

It's definitely a rarity these days. I loved it, every aspect of it, and I really like films that make you think and use your imagination.

I can also see how some people would hate it. I mean there's people out there who like Godzilla, Independence Day and any other crap that comes out of Hollywood. If you just want to be entertained by some pretty animated sequences being randomly thrown at the screen then Donnie Darko definitely won't do.

Ever seen Mulholland Drive, or any other of Peter Lynch's films?
Donnie looks like Cinderella compared to Lynch's movies, if you need a film to tickle your brain I'd seriously recommend those :)

I assume you mean David Lynch. That guy is so fcuked up. "Mulholland Drive" is nowheere near the most insane. Ever seen "Eraserhead"? What the HELL is wrong with David Lynch?! Why is the baby like that?! Why on earth is there someone inside his radiator?! These movies really get inside your head, quite like Donnie does.

loads-a-stuff. this aint no "chapter selection" special feature dvd. its all on one disc to. has commentary, documentaries, deleted scenes, 12 pages from the timetravel book to read. other stuff to, cant remember off hand.

    hahah oops!

got eircom so much in my head it's starting to brainwash me! yeah, i meant david lynch.. :)

haven't seen eraserhead, it's on my list.. but i've seen twin peaks, the series, and it really opened the world of david lynch to me. everything's so messed up, you can spend weeks thinking about it and talking about it and only then some things start making sense. there's tons of websites where people voice their opinions on his films. i certainly haven't heard of any other director creating so much buzz.

theres a new "Prism Edition" coming out next month on dvd.

the difference between that and the original dvd seems to be that prism doesnt contain any special features and is kinder to your pocket.

bit oddf they'd release the cut down version after the one with all the extra features.

I thought it was a great film, all my friends were lost when watching it though

An amazing film somewhat of a dvd and vhs cult film almost resembling the shawshank redemption in that it was more or less bypassed in american cinemas and hit the small box and wam.

    Also love the song

    Mad world - gary jules

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

It's being re-released in about 3 weeks and the price has dropped to around E10.:D
It's really hard to get it at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,169 ✭✭✭dangerman

yeah, top class film, in my top 10 of all time.

i don't normally listen to directors' commentaries but this one is really interesting and puts in a lot of extra back story as to what-the-fuck is going on, is really funny too.

if i had the cash to buy dvd's, id buy this one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Ragamuffin

Yeah was a great film. The end was sad though. The Gary Jules song in it is now very popular (Mad World).:D

:D Am reading this at work and it made me break out laughing!! So true, BTW. His best is "Wild At Heart"--it's so mad it's funny. :D

An excellent watch. There's some humour in it, and it's mind boggling too. Well worth the watch, i now own it on dvd. My favourite part was in the classroom, when donnie starts ranting about everything being catagorized into just two human emotions, love and fear. classic!

"Blue Velvet" is well worth a watch if you like Lynch, as are a lot of Peter Greenaway's films.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭UnrealQueen

Isn't Blue Velvet practically a porn film?

No. There was some controversy about it, but it was mainly that because that idiot Ebert didn't like it. It's strange that a negative review (two actually) from a fat fool who thinks standing up and booing is the correct way to respond to a film he doesn't like at Cannes (the probably-will-be-terrible Brown Bunny from Vincent Gallo) stays so long in the collective memory.
