I fear for this decade's youth

What the hell is going on? Everything is going 1980's. Don't get me wrong, I like the 80's, when it was the 80's. What will this decades generation have to remember from the first decade of the century? A re-hash of the 80's that's what.
At the beginning of the ninetys we were subject to a milder retromania about the 70's. We were all sick of the eighties and briefly 70's music and clothes theme came into fashion. But that's all it was, a shortlived fashion period and the 90's went on to be it's own thing (which infairness wasn't that good). But in the 'Noughts' or however the fuk you want to call it, our fashion and music are recycled. Stupid jaggedy haircuts women have, plastic jewellery, neon music, terrorism, cocaine, it's like a fukin timewarp.
The only good thing about it is that by next decade maybe we'll be so sick of retrotrash that we'll have an original decade. Can you imagine a retromania of the 1990's coming into fashion? Jesis. X-Works jeans, rave 'music', tracksuits, urgh, re-runs of 2point4 children, Casualty and Friends, well not freinds, they'll be repeated for ever.
Is anyone old enough to remember the early 80's? Did 60's fashion and clothes come back into fashion? No. Did people in the early 70's start wearing turnups with leather jackets and ride motorbikes around poeples shops in a tribute to the 'forgotten decade' of the 1950's? Doubt it.
Is anyone else sick of this 80's shyte? probably just me, rest of yez are loving it probably. Get your own fashion muppets*.

    *Trolling not intended

What the hell are you on about ffs. I don't see any real '80 rehash in my daily life. Get back under your bridge damn it troll.

Oh, and immediately assuming everyone will disagree and calling us muppets because of this isn't a good first step on boards, you'll be banned by the end of the day most likely. Nice meeting you though.

what is, and where can i get, a fashion muppet?

Eh excuse me but I've been called worse than that here.
I'm sick of being banned from places for expressing my points.

You don't get 80's rehash in your daily life? Methinks your the one who lives under
the bridge*. What about the redo' of 80's music? The amount of 80's music that is requested on 98fm, Fm104 or 2fm. The clothes people are wearing. Obviously you didn't live for too long in the 80s if you see this as original stuff.

ill agree with you to an extent about 80's music being played a lot, but thats down to crap boybands covering 80's songs. dont know about fashion being rehashed that much (although if i see another girl in legwarmers in a nightclub im gonna scream)

Ok, I don't listen to the radio for a start, cause it annoys the **** outta me. The dj's are usually gits, and the music will nearly always suck. As for clothes, what's so 80's rehash about jeans and a t-shirt and jumper. Or t-shirt and combats? I wear what I find comfy and that's about it. Don't matter to me whether its original or not. I'm not making a statement, i'm trying to keep myself warm ffs.

The reason your getting banned is because your coming across to trollish, due to the strongness of your wording etc.

I'll try and be more pleasent.

    I didn't say everyone is wearing 80's style clothes. I don't.
Why would I, or anyone say a pair of jeans and a jumper are 80s clothes?
It just wouldn't make sense. Your confused I think.
What I mean is cropped trousers, stripie jumpers, brightly coloured high heels, like blue or red. And those cheapo earings and bracelets. Mainly womens fashion. But then you have men's haircuts, which believe me, ain't original. For those cool guys with their hair spiked at the middle ala Beckam circa 2003, see Adam Ant etc.

yeah, the 70's had better music

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,718 ✭✭✭whosurpaddy

as for haircuts, especially mens haircuts, there really isnt that much that you can do with it. any type of haircut that you can get/imagine, someone has had it before you, what decade they had it is kind of irrelevant.

some womens fashion is definitely coming from the 80's tho and its usually the most horrible stuff, the bangly earings etc

Most likely reason that everyone voted 80's is coz most people on the board were kids during the 80's.......

i hate all the 80s clothes and jewellery in the shops! i find it so difficult to get any clothes that i like ie. without giant polka dots or stripes. its all so nasty.
and i have actually noticed a few 50s style items of clothing creeping into the shops. those kinda poodle skirts or whatever they're called seem to be back in fashion anyway...

Everything's just a rehash and/or a variance of what's been done before. Accept it and move on.

looking back (as a 90's child without your 80's nostalgia) the 80's hasnt stood the test of time, the 60's and 70's look much better from my own point of view, even the music and films. For some reason alot of 80's stuff looks older than the 70's stuff weird no? this is my own opinion, but could your opinion be blured by fond memories of the 80's? as austin powers said, i think :"there was a pack of seagouls and *something something* in referal to the 80's i wouldnt know what he's on about but it stresses my point, in comparisson to the radical reforms of the 60's and 70's the 80's seems pale in comparison. anyone agree/dissagree with me, please no yer to young lad, go to bed lol play wit yer poketmen r wa.;)

The 80's were tragic. The music was tragic, the clothes were tragic, the economy sucked and my father always wore those jackets with big, bad-ass colars. The coolest thing about the 80's was Midnight Oil (obscure Australian rock band). Generally (warning, generalisation follows) people who reminisce affectionately about the 80's weren't there...

Just because you didn't like the 80's doesn't mean everyone in the whole world has to.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 112 ✭✭inaccessibleisl

Well it's pretty obvious you didn't live long enough in the 80's to remember what it was like.
    Massive unemployment.
Shyte T.V, a few good shows here and there but Only F & H's, A-Team etc weren't shown 24hrs a day. And T.V ended around midnight. Actually stopped airing.
Food was muck compared to modern times.
While I'm parsial to a bit of 80's music, I wouldn't want a complete diet of it. Some, and only some of it's good. Think about it 'Dave', only the hits from the 80's get aired now, not the remaining 75% of the shyte.
Transport services where a fukin disgrace.
People could barely afford the luxurys of life.
NI troubles where continuing as strong as ever.
Medical care was 3-World incomparison to modern times.
People were actually uglier than todays people. Fact.
Wake up and smell the Moca Latee 'Dave'.
You should be gratefull for what you have in the 'noughts'.
What next? you liked the 1600's?
The grass isn't greener on the other side. Infact is yellow and burnt and there's dog sh1t everywhere.
