ARGH, you cannot catch a cold from being cold. A cold is a virus. And orange juice, plenty of it.

Nuke it with vitamin C (i.e. pure orange juice) and Lemsip max strength. If it persists, go to the college quack and beg for anti-biotics.

Really. And the reason you probably got it in mass is because it's a gathering of a lot of people, some who carry the virus without it affecting them. It gets transferred to you through the air and BLAM, instant cold.

And DO NOT take anti-biotics for it. They will do nothing to the cold and your body will gain a resistance against them so they won't work as effectively when you really need them.

There are medical schools of thought that disagree with that. Research has prooven that the use of anti-biotics affects the symptoms of the virus proportionally with the seriousness of the virus (i.e. the stronger the virus, the better you respond to anti-biotics). However, there is also the school of thought that it makes anti-biotics less effective, and creates stronger super-virii.

So true. Anti-biotics will do absolutely NOTHING to a virus. It's just basic biology.

Doctors who give anti-biotics to people with viruses should be held accountable.

    Lemsip max strength

    This is funny :)

Can you get anything weaker than max strenght?
... maybe extra strenght, but that would be the weakest for sure.

go to bed and take at least three days off work:)

Is anybody else annoyed about the Lemsip Max Strength ads? In reality if you're sick you dont want to be well enough to sit at home working so you can come back in the next day and suck up to your boss!

Thats not just a school of thought it's a fact.
The over use of antibiotics for insignificant things like colds has lead to the growth of super bugs that have grown resistant to most antibiotics.
The Best advice for a cold has been given in the first few replies, you would be best staying away from the antibiotics unless you have a secondary infection of some sort.

Garlic does the business, since ive been eating it i havent had a cold and i used to be chronic
bbc news quote "The study found that a daily garlic supplement containing allicin, a purified component of garlic considered to be the major biologically active agent produced by the plant, reduced the risk of catching a cold by more than half."

Lemsip does the job nicely. Lemsip, and spicy chicken soup, but not together obviously cos that just wouldn't be nice! My sister and my mum both have really bad colds at the om, so I'm just waiting to get it:(

    try wetting a towel
then putting it on top of your pillow so that your neck is resting directly on it when you're sleeping

you'll notice the difference in the morning

In a way. The "superbugs" were always there, really. But the numbers of non-superbugs kept their own numbers down (competition, see?). Now that antibiotics keep non-superbugs in sparse numbers, there's nothing to stop the superbugs from growing into the space that wasn't there before...

Antibiotics leading to super-viruses? Nope. Antibiotics are bacteria. There's a big difference...

And yes, The Lemsip Max Strength ad is horrendous. I wish it could be made human, so I could stab it in the face.
