I'm looking for a computer system to retouch my digital photographs.
My existing system is five years old and doesn't have the power for what I require. Can anyone recommend the best Dell Computer System for this and the best Printer for printing out my finished results.

Also where is the cheapest place (online) to purchase Photoshop?

RAM is your main concern here.
    Get loads of RAM.
A big HD is good for holding hi-res images also.
Get a wacom intuos 2 graphics tablet with the money u save by not paying through the arse for a top of the range graphics card.
If you use load of filters they require processor power although a 2.66 Ghz will be more than enough to calculate these changes at a reeasonable rate.

loads of RAM isn't a priority with photoshop (512 will more than suffice.. for something like 3d studio max a gig would be needed, and used).. as photoshop keeps its own disk caches.. make sure you get a quality and fast (7200rpm+) hard-drive with an 8mb cache.. if you get two even better, photoshop will use both hard-disks (this'll be quicker than two seperate partitions on the one disk).

    I'd reccommend getting Photoshop Elements.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopel/main.html

It's a cheap (circa €100) version of Photoshop designed from home use and digital photography. Many of the features that have been taken out are really only needed for professionals, and you won't miss them or the €500 quid extra you'd have to spend for the full version.

You can pick it up in many camera shops.

Also, as said, you don't need a particularly beefy system really. A standard run of the mill one from Dell would be fine, but maybe get a little bit more RAM, as said 512 would be more than enough.

As for printers, Epson have some really good printers, and are a pretty reliable brand.

    good luck!

Don't forget that photoshop & elements also runs on MAC's - not cheaper but should be more stable.

BTW: There is also "the gimp" - a gnu / free photo editing package.

AFAIK Adobe set the prices so it don't matter much where you get it - except for delivery charges
