Iron Maiden said theyd love to play it.........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

Well the annoncement will be in early feb.

i cant see iron maiden or areosmith etc.doing it because the recent trend has been for a more modern band in keeping with the headliners of glastonbury and t in the park.

various bands are doing festivals this year so its take your pick from this bunch as headliners......

    .radiohead
    .coldplay
    .white stripes(unlikely)
    .the who
    the strokes.

p.s. the frames have to be there this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

aerosmith would be good me thinks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

    aerosmith would be rubbish!

the best band to headline would be radiohead with support from the frames, bell x1,snow patrol and the white stripes.

Saw radiohead in glasto, they were unbelievable

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

Radiohead would get my vote too, an official last Irish gig perhaps. My money however would be on someone like Coldplay or David Gray - wouldn't really be bothered going to see them though...

what a sad slane that would be...

i think the foo fighters would be great but thats probably just wishful thinking

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,269 ✭✭✭p.pete

I'd be there krattapopov, music is subjective - personally I think aerosmith would be sad.

Looking at the last few years - Chili's, Steriophonics, U2, Robbie, Manics etc. I'm not really sure if aerosmith would fit in among that lot....

of course music is subjective... and that my opinion that the line up suggested by raven would be a fairly dull affair...

the line up normally always takes in different tastes of music and im all for that, the different the better

i wouldn't rule out foo fighters

nothing would fit in among robbie williams the fat ****

aerosmith would definitely rock the place, i think they'd fit it just as well as any of them

certainly bell X1, the frames and co. would be better off going as spectators cos they ain't got the talent, fan base or songs that would merit being in the top 5 acts at slane

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

i agree it should be different types of music so far that i would go for

    headline-radiohead
    support acts-frames,system of a down,some **** dance/dj,white stripes and strokes

its not true to that frames and bellx1 wouldnt bring the fans. The frames played 4 nights in vicar street and two in the olympia. They had a number 1 album and went down a storm at lisdonvarna and witness and bellx1 just rock!

By the way damien dempsey to open the gig, class above

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

further to my last post,i really wish people would stop dissing irish bands.

the frames and bellx1 are as good as anyone out there at the moment and they would make any gig/festival class.

first of all, i enjoy quite a few irish acts, damien dempsey being 1 of them but if you think for one minute that bell X1 and the Frames are up there with the White Stripes, RHCP, Foo Fighters and Coldplay then you're so dillusional that you probably think people take you seriously.

Josh Ritter is American. I think The Frames have the potential to be a world class band... They're every bit as talented as White Stripes or Coldplay. Similar backgrounds too. That's not to say I think they're necessarily as good or better than either band. It's all about personal taste.

apologies for that lapse, as you can see i've fixed it.
personal taste is the key alrite but i've seen bell x1 in concert a number of times and just feel they'd be first act on stage if anything. when half the people are still walking the green mile to get into the venue. you all know of what i speak

Aerosmith, AC/DC, or Iron Maiden would not be headlining Slane. Slane is hardly a "rock" festival like it was in the 80s, more like a (very) dumbed down version of the V Festival in the UK, the gentlest festival of them all (no, seriously). And its gotta keep in region with the people with the limited musical tastes too.

Also, Radiohead and especially Coldplay would not be playing Slane this year. They have no need to support their lastest releases, so count them out. The White Stripes look likely to play the Reading Ireland festival instead.

One band I would see on the cards for Slane is Travis, since they missed out on the V2002 festival due to the state of their drummer. Enjoy.

Slane was good last year so is gonna be useless this year, seems to be good every 2 years

A lot of people's choices are very narrow-minded.

Bands like Coldplay, Radiohead, David Gray, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden etc. have already played in Ireland very recently.

How about something different for a change? I'm not saying get Aerosmith to headline it but at least if they did it would be something different and something an Irish audience hadn't seen in years.

Time to be a bit original.

    Travis! oh dear.

I'd settle for Bowie, Pixies and/or Radiohead, I guess. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,585 ✭✭✭honru

alienhead, if it makes you feel better, it is also possible that Travis could play either Witnness or Reading Ireland - but it can only be one.

But noone really knows, or has any solid idea of who is playing. Give it two months or so and it might be more clear. Mind you, I'd start thinking of either Witnness or Reading Ireland instead, far more interesting in terms of lineup.

I know i started this thread but i heard over the weekend that mcd and sony are looking into the possibility of the headliners being AC/DC and Aerosmith.Personally i think that would be rubbish but the organisers don't seem too.

And to the person who said that neither coldpaly, radiohead or the whitestripes will play because they have nothing to promote could you please explain why the mean fiddler(owned Partially by mcd)are looking for all three bands to play at festivals in England.
Coldplay are being looked at to play Glasto if oasis wont and the whitestripes are playing the festivals they missed out on last year

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88 ✭✭powerage22

AC/DC or Aerosmith would be fantastic! They are two of the best live rock bands ever. AC/DC haven't been here in a couple of years so hopefully they might be headlining

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,681 ✭✭✭Johnny_the_fox

ACDC.. i *think* are on a tour in America during the summer.. so that would probably rule them out... :(

Eh, so what? Am I supposed to believe you? Where did you get this information?

Since Coldplay and Radiohead both played 4/5 Irish shows to support their lastest releases, I sincerely doubt that they will be returning anytime soon. Both bands seem to be taking the year off to record a new album. I'm sure Glastonbury will have no problem finding a replacement for Oasis if the inevidible happens, but since Coldplay played the festival two years ago (and since Glastonbury actually wants a bit of variety), I doubt it will be them.

And read my earlier post; I said that The White Stripes were looking likely to play the Reading Ireland festival, which in turn would mean they will play the Reading/Leeds festivals aswell.

Aerosmith have played here before?! News to me.

Actually, from what gigographies I've read of them they seem to have pretty much avoided touring in Europe for the past decade.

'twould be amazing if they played Slane though *crosses fingers*

    tbh ... i used logic.

its the way they work... they are due to release an album early this year (February/March time) and then will have a tour roughly 4-8 months later.
Being ACDC... they would tour the USA first + end in the UK.

I stand corrected if im wrong ... :o

Aerosmith have played here before?! News to me.

Aerosmith were meant to play back in 98/99 or so, had a ticket and all but it was cancelled, i am not sure if they had ever scheduled a gig or played here before that

    its long overdue

I was at the Radiohead gig in the Point on December the 4th (Great), but before they played 'We Suck Young Blood', Thom started talking about how screwed up the music industry is getting and that he's going to take a break from music for a while. This makes me a bit doubtful about Radiohead playing Slane, but I can always wish.

AC/DC would be really cool alright - never seen them but I promised myself after the last time I wouldn't miss their next gig. They're supposed to be unbelievable live.

Aerosmith did play here somewhere between '92 &'96 in the point. Sorry I can't be more specific, but both of me mates that went to the gig no longer live here, but I do remember them saying it was brilliant :)

    Turn to headline!

    Here here!!!

Can you imagine if Blink 182 played it? It would be like a 10-year montessori reunion! The hoodie factor would be unreal!!! As for J-Lo, she'd probably be off launching a perfume somewhere.

I couldn't really care who headlines it, so long as it isn't a band who plays here regularly (every year or two). AC/DC and Aerosmith would be pretty good, as would a lot of the other suggestions.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 378 ✭✭wiped

AC/DC in Slane would be the dogs bollox .... but i can't see it happening .. unfortunately ....

Areosmith would be alright I suppose , just for the fact the haven't played here in ages ... saw them in Belfast in 90 - 91 sometime ... t'was alright
